My sister's room was bright yellow, similar to the 1st photo. I remember watching my parents paint it when I was 5. Her sheets were navy and white with tiny specs of yellow. It was awesome and bold and oh so early 80s. I see it in pictures now and the walls are blinding!

Oh, and also, it's a recommendation, not a law. I would prefer the AAP be over-inclusive than lax in their safety recommendations.

If you're worried about pacifiers falling through the slats, there are products like Wubanub and Binki Bear that are small stuffed animals with pacis attached to them. I didn't use one until my daughter was over a year, but it definitely was a lifesaver.

HollyHar-- We live in the south and it gets hot, but I always like a thin sheet on me. I just dressed my daughter in a thin sleep sac and her diaper and she seemed fine.

Glad they made the recommendation. My kids hit their heads a couple of times because we didn't use bumpers, but then they learned not to after a couple of bumps. Maybe tough love, but better a bumped head than something worse.

I went to Ikea today and saw the gray coverlets and they seemed fine. I don't know if they'll pill, but the texture was soft enough and the blanket has some heft to it. I thought it was good quality for the price. The gray is darker than the R&B coverlet you were looking at-- more charcoal than light or medium gray, but definitely reads as gray and not black. FWIW, I have several Ikea duvets and none of them have pilled.

I'm in the same boat but I'm looking for a full/queen for our master bedroom. The Diamante that was mentioned by the editor has been the cheapest I can find. Interested to see if anyone finds a cheaper option.

I went to Ikea this past weekend with my 3 year old and 8 month old, and as I entered, it occurred to me that my 3 year old could finally go to Smaland!! Jumpy claps!!!! He loved it, my 8 month old slept and I spent 1 glorious hour buying awesome, but unnecessary stuff (with the mentality of "How often do I make a trip to Ikea?").

I highly recommend soapstone countertops! I was so scared to get them because everyone said they were high maintenance, but they've been a dream. We used a stone sealant on them (which everyone said was a no no, but it's been completely fine) and we haven't had to oil them for years. Completely heat-resistant and if it gets nicked, you just sand and smooth it out. Plus, it can be more eco-friendly if you get it from a local quarry. It cost the same as granite and little less than quartz (at least in our area). Yay for soapstone!

And stainless steel-- looks great, but i agree that it's hard to clean. I wish I could afford restored vintage appliances, but I don't have a money tree. :)

Thanks for the post-- interesting!

Our daughter is 7.5 months and the Parklane has held up well. She's not at an age yet where she can really destroy it, but so far so good. Thanks for the toddler rail info. We'll most likely move her to my son's IKEA toddler bed when she's ready and move him to a full size bed.

Just to note, for my son, we went fancy schmancy and bought the Nurseryworks Aerial crib. It turned out to be a piece of sh*t. Dropside broke twice and we had to get it replaced. My best friend bought the same crib around the same time and the same thing happened to her crib. I know they don't make this crib with a dropside anymore, but if you're paying $1000+ for a crib, it certainly shouldn't break after 3 months. Oh, and customer service was terrible. After that experience, I became a Walmart/Ikea believer. The quality has been so much better and we paid a fourth of the price.

Gywneth Paltrow can be one big eye roll, but the cookbook is actually good. The vegan banana nut muffins with no refined sugar and spelt flour... they are amazing. You won't regret making them and they take about 2 seconds to prepare. The chicken stir fry and brown rice with kale and scallions are great dishes and have become staples. She doesn't say who her ghost writer is, but she gives lots of credit to the chef who helped her come up with the recipes. I'm still not convinced she eats this stuff all the time (isn't she always on some sort of cleanse?), but this cookbook is far superior to other celebrity cookbooks. Good food is good food.

Thanks for the comments, y'all! The mirror is quite heavy, so I'm apprehensive of using wood glue alone. A combination of wood glue and L brackets just might work. And thanks for letting me know about gorilla glue. We have a tube and have used it on small jobs where the glue wouldn't show (inside a cabinet). Never knew it was so messy.

The mirror is currently in our shed and it's a winter wonderland here, so I haven't had a chance to examine the back recently. I know that the paper covering the back tore when the mirror collapsed, but I'm guessing that's not a big deal.

My husband is the hanger upper in the house, and he always hangs heavy things by the D-rings. He was ready to chuck the thing because of the weight of the mirror, but I think I can convince him that with the correct reinforcements, the mirror is salvageable.

Thanks again and I will let you know how it turns out.

I'm sorry, but I find this completely ridiculous. It's definitely a safety issue, no matter what age. Who has the dispensable income to buy these things? All I can think about is that scene in "American Psycho" where all the businessmen are comparing their cards and trying to one up each other. I can usually find a place for niche products, but this one is a no.

The cribs are a little "if Oeuf and Nurseryworks Aerial crib procreated"-- it's not really bringing anything new to the table. And for $1600??? Eeesh! But bedding and color schemes are nice. The picture I saw of Tiffani's baby's nursery was really pretty-- I love lavender.

One of our cats (a Siamese) is mute. He can't meow, so he communicates by getting on his hind legs and bowing or "praying." He also likes to lick people's toes when they enter our house, which freaks most of our friends and family out. He sleeps in the baby's crib (baby is not born yet) and joins us for dinner every night in the empty chair with his little head resting on the table.

The other cat likes to be perched on high things because he's a little skittish. He used to be able to jump to the top of our 7 foot bookcase and sleep there all day (sometimes falling off). He's turned sickly in the last year and can't jump or climb up things anymore, so now he just curls up under our china cabinet all day. Poor kitty.

We just painted our living room/dining room in the exact color combination. It's really hard to say what you should do with the doors without seeing a picture. Is your space more traditional? More modern? Our house has a traditional bungalow feel with wood beams, honey colored wood floors and built ins, so we ended up keeping the doors a wood stain that matched the floors and woodworking. The trim around it is white. Our space gets natural light, but is still pretty dark and I think the combination works well. The walls used to be dark olive green and bright mango orange, so basically anything was better than that!!!!

Karen's link to the Brooklyn loft is really beautiful, but it wouldn't work in our "modern bungalow" style. I would only go for dark colors on the doors if your space and decor was more modern. Otherwise, keep it light and airy with either cloud white or stain doors same color as wood floors (if you like the color of your floors, that is...).

Good luck! Don't you love Edgecomb Gray?!?!

IDK-- I liked that the photos weren't taken by a professional and that the house wasn't decorated by a professional designer. It feels real, lived in, and designed by someone who loves the MCM aesthetic. We live in this area and considered a few MCM houses when getting ready to buy, but we choose a more traditional house in a better scholo district. I still drive by these neighborhoods sighing all the way down the block!

Agree with Elbe1-- just like I dress for myself and not other people, I design my surroundings with things that are pleasing to me and my family, whether it's in style or outmoded. Design is so personal-- you have to get over any hang ups that people will judge your style and stay true to yourself and your aesthetics.
