I'm also voting for Arm and Hammer Ultra Last. I've tried all the different types of Arm and Hammer, and this is by far the best odor reducer (espec when I havent scooped in a few days). They say that each granule is coated in baking soda! We have two cats that actually share a litterbox, and I usually scoop once a day, changing once a week. I agree with the other folks though, that the best thing to reduce odor is to scoop frequently, and there's just no way to get around litter tracking (and their darn shedding!), so sweeping frequently is required, too.

I have two cats and a dog, so I bought a clear vinyl cover to put over my new sofa from scratching when I'm at work. I'm not crazy lady strict about putting it on every time I leave the house, but I figure keeping it covered for that 10+ hours a day I'm at work will extend the life of my upholstery. Plus, it was super cheap...<$20.

As for pet fur, I use Pledge fabric sweepers for quick cleanup.

I sort of split the difference in my bedroom. I have one really dark accent wall in a purple/chocolate color and a lighter stone color on the other three. With an attic angled ceiling and only two small skylight windows, it's already pretty cozy.
