Leah, it's gorgeous. I love the reclaimed wood wall...where'd you find the wood?? I want to do this in my daughter's room! The whole house, inside and out, is refreshing and lovely. I think coming home to this place would be so awesome. Sorry about the pup. :( Leah & Rich's Evolving Patina House Tour |

Thanks, all. We've taken a few steps this winter and hopefully we'll see a reduction in our oil use by the season's end. We spray-foam insulated the entire attic and the crawl space under the kitchen is next. As for the wood/pellet stove decision, it was made for me--a friend of mine had a pellet stove they no longer needed. It's only been a few weeks so we'll see how it works long-term. Stencils on the stairs. I got big ones (for walls, I think), then cut them to size for the risers and taped them on. Meredith's Historic Farmhouse Dream House Tour |

Countertops are concrete. We poured them in place ourselves, a process that I'll not soon forget. The highlight being as we worked the wet concrete, we discovered some old, live knob and tube wiring in the wall that was electrifying the entire countertop and all of the cabinets. It was wild. Everybody was getting shocked. After that, the countertops were great looking, if a little less exciting... Meredith's Historic Farmhouse Dream House Tour |

Crazygenious59 - Thank you, but truly, I cleaned the bejeebers out of this house knowing that Leah from AT was coming over. And I *loved* it that clean...but with 3 kids, 2 adults, and 2 indoor/outdoor dogs, it is rarely (and I mean like count-on-one-hand rarely) at its finest and shiniest. But thank you. :) Meredith's Historic Farmhouse Dream House Tour |

Wow, thank you for all the kind comments! I'm a little speechless--and anyone who knows me will confirm that's quite a feat! We did the same thing in our kitchen a few months ago...it was a serious undertaking but I do love the results. Very natural looking (which fits our farm life) and you can't beat the price (which was also key for us). We had to pour ours in place since it was winter and our garage could not maintain a temperature high enough for curing...which had the advantage of not having to move slabs around and forming perfectly to our uneven plaster walls. But sanding them in place is a SERIOUSLY messy job, and you also can't guarantee a perfectly level surface since you're not flipping them out of a form. Your countertops look beautiful...especially to me because I know how much work it took! Hooray for concrete! How to Make DIY Concrete Countertops Imperfectly Polished |
