I've read (and I thought it was on this site) that it also helps to hang/lay your pillows in bright sunshine too keep them fresh. The sun's UV light works antibacterial.

Fun fact on the side: You can also disinfect water with sunlight. Put it in a transparent PVC-Bottle and put it out in the sun. 1 day of sunlight or 4 days of cloudy weather should do the trick.

Over here in Germany, it's not common to use a top-sheet. Just a bottom sheet (usually a fitted sheet) and a comforter. The only difference is that you don't just wash the bottom and top sheet but the bottom sheet and the cover of the comforter.

And why do I tell you this? I feel that a comforter doesn't slip so fast if you don't use a top sheet in between. And there's less to get tangled in.

It won't cost you a thing to try, so maybe do this, before you head out buying velcro and suspenders and such.
