I recall reading several years ago in Southern Living, in a feature on sweet tea, the writer's directive that the tea should be sweetened with "a thundershower of sugar."

For this Southern girl semi-permanently stranded in the Midwest, this recipe and the subsequent discussion is like getting a missive from home. Thanks, everyone. :)

As an Anthro employee, I certainly don't subscribe to everything the company does and, like HillE, am a tad cynical about some of their eco-efforts (e.g., their China-produced Xmas ornaments that featured the "Shop local" slogan. Sheesh!)

But as far as the bee windows go, while definitely an opportunistic move on Anthro's part, it's the brainchild of one of the corporate visual designers. Apparently she's been personally involved with the honeybee issue for a while and saw this as a chance to increase customer consciousness. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

The paint is on the underside of the glass base. It doesn't have to be touched -- I was unfortunately careless.

And, fwiw, the shade shown in the picture above doesn't come with the lamp. That combination doesn't interest me either. This is the shade that went home with me, when I bought the lamp in the store: http://tinyurl.com/6x7z7a.

I too adore mercury glass and was thrilled when Anthro brought out this lamp. It looks great in my entryway.

Be careful about cleaning it, however: the mercury glass effect is merely silver paint on the lamp's underside, and it comes off quite easily in cleaning, as I discovered to my chagrin.

I too would like to do a little time traveling -- to stop the previous owner of our 90-year-old flat from ripping out the butler pantry's vintage cabinetry. He installed dark granite, glass shelving, and mirrors. I've seen the original built-ins in other condos, and it hurts.

Two and three? Change the flat's orientation from east-west to south-north and add a second bedroom.
