HomeGoods is a great resource if:

1. You don't have the time or inclination to run around to a whole bunch of different stores;

2. You are on a budget and don't want to have a home devoid of decoration until either one of these limitations change; or

3. You are just impatient and want your rooms to have a more finished look sooner than later.

4. You are ok with reproductions and aren't really particularly interested in owning antiques

I wouldn't love it but if it was neatly done, I think I could tolerate it.

3. replace the floor lamps with table lamps. something with color or with more visual heft/presence than what you already have.

4. remove the sconces.

5. maybe some sort of fun throw for the couch.

6. bring some more of your personality into the room.

you have some nice pieces to work with.

Lampshades and Throw or Pillow Suggestions? Good Questions

1. paint the wall. you need some contrast between the wall and couch colors unless you are intentionally using only whites and other barely there colors in the room and if that is the case, then you need to incorporate different textures as mentioned by canopenergirl
2. determine a fuller color palette for the room. right now its a little two-toned and comes off as flat in your picture. l love your pillows--maybe draw your color scheme from them?
2. coffee table is all right but consider a simple tabescape in white or a similar contrasting color that ties in to your palette

I have to add that the only downside that I see is that it does make it nearly impossible to have a sophisticated garden-party type yard when you've got a behemoth play set looming in the background.

What's That Backyard Play Set Really Going To Cost?

We bought one from a big box home improvement store. It came with everything we needed to put it together. Took a few weekends to do it, but we find that it was well worth it. Our yard is flat and we were able to place the playset in a way that it didn't come too close to our fence or power lines. The children are now 6 and 4 and between them and the neighborhood kids, it gets plenty of use.

Here's a small tip...invest in upgraded/heavy duty swings and hinges that will hold the weight of an adult so that you can enjoy the set as well! We did so that I can use the play set as well. Because I'm apparently a really old kid :)

I like the look of the baskets on the wall but I would worry about weakening the handles on a heavier basket if it was hung like those in the first post.

We had burn-marked, fake butcher block laminate counter tops that we just recently replaced with good quality Wilsonart laminate. It only cost a few hundred dollars and made a world of difference in the look of our kitchen. Professional installation added to the price but it still was very affordable. Certainly worth getting an estimate.

If you need straight runs of laminate, the off-the-shelf countertops at the big box stores are the way to go.

It looks like she was trying to demonstrate the use of color throughout the room (from the throw pilows to the shoes). I assumed the colorway was named by the paint company but I might be mistaken. No worries either way :)

Nice use of pallets!

You could also use a stencil. They have some pretty nifty ones on this site:
