@vintagejenta maybe you could use a box grater with the corn on the cob. I think that's how humitas (a tamale-like food) are traditionally made in Chile. Just grate the raw corn off the cob and slice some corn kernels off whole to get the mixed texture? I don't have a food processor or blender either and that's how I'd try it.

I just came across this brain jello mold at neatorama. Maybe more "brunchy" things than jello could be molded in it? Like chevre with paprika and herbs sprinkled on it.

If you wanted to cure the impending apocalypse, you could have test tubes or beakers of drinks/sauces.

Fun party idea!

Tomorrow is Chile's bicentennial so we'll be eating plenty of asado all weekend, accompanied by ensalada Chilena, empanadas, and pebre (the ubiquitous pico de gallo-like sauce), washed down with chicha or wine. If there's any room for dessert, maybe some cakes such as panqueque or kuchen? But definitely lots of manjar (dulce de leche) filled goodies!

Malcolm Gladwell also wrote about how difficult it is to replicate or surpass Heinz ketchup while in the mustard market all sorts of variations are popular.

I have to admit I love heinz too, but in Chile I prefer Malloa brand ketchup, con extra tomate!

How about rellenos de papa?

Or an asian variation on the rice balls, stuffed with salmon, umeboshi, or tuna. And sprinkled with furikake!

My mom has one. They make quick work of perfect skinny slivers of things like scallions for Korean scallion pancakes. Kind of a uni-tasker but it's a good one!

Rather than use harsh chemicals when cleaning, make your own green all-purpose cleanser: mix 1/2 teaspoon washing soda, 2 teaspoons borax, 1/2 teaspoon liquid soap (like castille soap), and 2 cups hot water. Put in a spray bottle. Also, use lavender essential oil or tea tree oil mixed with water as an antibacterial spray and mold killer. These solutions are easy on the environment and your wallet!

Sometimes I store sugar with a vanilla bean or two in it. Great for coffee. But cinnamon toast sounds brilliant!

I make my own all-purpose cleaner. 1/2 t washing soda, 2 t borax, 1/2 t liquid soap, 2 c hot water (to dissolve). I put it in a spray bottle and use it for everyday cleaning of counters and sinks. It's cheap and non-toxic!

Kate,
They are still there under "products" and then "design". I'd include a link but it looks like a flash pop-up.

Great find!

There's this product that let's you paint on a stainless steel finish. I haven't tried it but you can also order a sample to check out before committing. A kit for a fridge costs $130-150. Maybe someone out there has tried it?

I just got a Macbook after using only Windows for over a decade and I love it! (btw, I work for a major tech corp that makes PCs and I still made the switch) It takes a bit of getting used to of course, but I love how easy it is to personalize the look and functionality. I adore the dock and dashboard. The interface is really easy and logical. Quick boot and wake speeds compared to a pc. It runs Parallels so it offers the most flexibility in my opinion. Best of all is the plethora of fun, cool, useful, and FREE apps available.

Try this site. You enter what material you want to stick and to what. Then it gives you some options and info about each option (i.e. toxicity, time to adhere and where to find).
