we are a one language per parent family. my husband is native german and only speaks german to our boys...i only speak english (i don't want to teach incorrect grammar by speaking my more rudimentary german.) the boys are only 4 and 2, so while english seems to be their default language, they understand even more complicated german sentences. we are confident that as they get older, they will be speaking more of german.

I was a no-way-in-heck-would-I-ever-use-cloth type of girl...until my second son was born with severe food allergies. It took 18 months, countless specialist appointments and more prescription strength hydrocortisone than I care to admit, to realize that my son's bleeding, raw, scarred behind was a result of the disposables. We tried bumgenius at toddlerhood and never went back to disposables.

Cloth is not or everyone, but they are a miracle for us.

our family just had to go through a similar debate. BOTH of my children's rooms had custom murals. perhaps i followed my heart to our detriment, but i did not paint over either mural. we knew we were limiting our market, but we also knew our townhouse would be appealing to the young family/starter home sector anyway. we deliberately listed lower and sold in 60 days...to a young family with kids who kept the murals.

it worked out for us.

as for living with kids while your house is on the market, ours were 1 and 3...we limited the toys to a few favorites and put them away before showings. it was not easy keeping the house "show ready" with young kids. just remember, it is only a short time!
