I love this transformation. But I'm a crazy dog lady, and I'd feel bad that my dog has less space to run :-/

I really like No. 10 - unfortunately most of the paneling I see is the awful, scary knotty pine that covers my laundry room.

Wanted to add that I intentionally skipped buying a front loading washer because I read that they're overrated and prone to mildew. Really love the top loader I bought.

Pros & Cons: Replacing Appliances in a Rental Renters Solutions

I had no washer and dryer in my rental so had no choice - but I'm glad that I bought the ones I did. I bought a lower-end top load white high efficiency washer and dryer, I think I paid around $800 for both at most - and my clothes are cleaner than ever! Years of using a bad rental w&D (former apartment) ... I had no idea! My electric bill didn't go up, and my water bill is reasonable. So you can get them for less.

My washing machine (I guess I got it on sale):

Moving it will be a pain, but I think it's worth it if you pay for water.

You inspired me to clean my fridge as if I were moving soon. I always get stuck doing that right before I move. Yucks.

Oh I love this. The before looks like mine - mine is worse. But I rent and I'm hesitant to keep spending my own money on this stuff - need to buy a house!

Before & After: A Laundry Room is Born

I love #2. I now have zero electronics in my bedroom, except for my Nook. I painted it a lovely green (Behr premium plus ultra in Grasscloth) and have some sheer cream curtains in a cottony material - I LOVE it. Totally my sanctuary. It was my home office until I realized that I actually work in my living room and needed that green for my bedroom. It's also the only room that gets decent light.

I moved out of my bedroom partially because the heat pump woke me up all the time and the last tenant was so creepy that I just felt like the bedroom had negative energy.

I'd be worried about mold/mildew between the tile and the wainscoating. I guess you could very heavily seal it with silicone but I'd personally just remove the tile.

All I have to say is this inspired me to take another look at a bungalow near me that is selling for cheap and needs some work. Not sure if it gets enough light though. This is one of my fave tours ever!

I am typing this and looking at my atrocious Ikea TV stand, which I should have thrown out many years ago. I thought I might repurpose it somehow, but I think instead I just need to get a TV stand somehow, even an old crate is better than this thing.

This is inspiring. I have a horrifyingly ugly old Ikea corner TV stand that I still use and for some reason never throw out. I'm going to to paint and revamp it into something fabulous (I hope)

If I were a landlord I'd be furious if a renter painted the ceiling a dark color. It's hard enough to paint a ceiling - but a popcorn ceiling is worse. Hope she just left it alone and added pieces below to draw the eye away from it.

I work from home full time and I find that my biggest challenge is getting people to understand that I'm not available during the day. I really have to keep regular daytime hours because of meetings - I'm certainly free to work MORE, but I really can't just stop in the middle of the day.

I break so many of these rules :-/

I work from my sofa with the TV on. I have an office, but it's not as ergonomic as it should be. I feel it's important to have though because when I'm done working the laptop goes back in the office and the door is closed. Plus, it's nice to have the printer, files, etc. out of the main living space. I find that psychologically necessary.

Magic eraser might have harsh chemicals that could damage it.

I use enzyme cleaner for pet pee on a lot of things, maybe this is similar - I always have some nature's miracle on hand. Didn't work of course on the gold latex paint all over the cream colored carpet...but Dawn dish soap and a cheap electric toothbrush did...

I can't stop looking at this home tour.

Then I look around my own living room and I'm a little horrified.

This is my favorite home tour yet, partially because I salivate over midcentury modern.

Somehow I think they pay a good deal more for their rental home than I do mine...

I know how vile shoes get in NYC but I think the shoes off policy is just...weird. You can't clean after guests leave? What if people have smelly feet? I'm more grossed out by people's feet than their shoes for some reason. I'd never ask people to remove their shoes. I'd appreciate some notice so I can either wear nice socks or have my feet looking decent. Also, I have a gross bunion (pointy heels...sigh) and I would choose my shoes to cover that up. The last thing I need is to be at a party and all night try to tuck my bunion foot under a sofa so it's not noticed. Rude.
