Love it. This project gives the middle finger to all those renovation TV shows that gut perfectly useful cabinets. Not only did you save $$$ but also saved trees.

I tried hard to keep my existing cabinets but during remodel just but particle board used in my existing cabinets crumbled while doing electrical over head and setting a beam to the sagging ceiling. Had only the previous owner used a bit more stable materials. However I kept all the good plywood doors and reusing them to make my various subfloor cubbies for wine storage. :)

A year is not much time to wait for your renovation. In the mean time try figuring out how to creatively use your existing items. Find a new place for those cabinets...reuse as island, reuse in laundry room, reuse in garage as work bench, or maybe even find a new owner for them. Use that energy into planning and working out the details.

Be careful doing any work right now you can end up opening up a can of worms.

For $2 they could of carefully caulked the trim to ceiling paneling to fill in the distracting the gaps. But those $2 could of taken them over budget.

WordGRL. Those are usually the easiest doors to fabricate.... I would contact a woodworker and they could do these in their sleep. If you are handy with the router its a breeze once the panels are cut to size.

www.jmkitchencabinets.com They are in Los Angeles. They are a true custom cabinetry fabricators and designers. They have a great show room and will soon be getting a look at my cabinets. Great prices because they are the direct contact and they do not finish or paint the cabinets. Contact Tony there and tell him Abel sent referred you to them. True service with a smile.

Too much make up.

I like it morning with out make up yellow. The handle and tag give it away that there's been an attempt to hide the wrinkles. My suggestion would of been to not reinstall the tag holder and handle. Instead drill a small hole in the rear where once can push the drawer slightly open to then completely open from front.

I believe one should look at all these posts with a filter on their eyes.

One. If you are not a home owner its most likely that you can't even paint your wall with out notifying the landlord so of course you would not be able to do these custom minimalist/built in projects. Stick to Ikea stuff.

Two. "Read between the lines"... or view ideas within the image. The towel in the "p" trap of the sink is genius. Its green, Its low cost, and every rental has one. You can probably stash a roll of TP in that trap too for emergencies ;0)

Three. If you are desperately looking for ideas to stash/store your stuff then you have too much junk. Have a yard sale.

These "Live Better Electrically" was a campaign with spoke person Ronal Regan in the 1960's. My parent's house in Downey California is a Mid Century home which won that same medallion. Their medallion is embedded onto the entrance concrete walkway.

We were fortunate to have one of the original owner's kid (now in her early '50s) stop by and she revealed to us that the house won the award for its outstanding "modern" light system. The entire house's lights are controlled locally as anyone would switch their lights on and off individually per room. In addition to that this house was fitted with two master control panels in the master bedroom and the den to control "all" the lights remotely. It's nice as they even control outlets intended for Christmas lights on the so-fit of the perimeter of the home.

The system is quite complex as it has lots of wiring and a panel of over a dozen of relays located in a panel in the garage. Pretty neat. One day I will post pictures of that system and tag this post.

For now please enjoy a retro commercial:

Use a spray bottle with water and spray it on the tip of the area being drilled. It will keep the area cool to avoid breaking and also keep any of those glass filings from entering your lungs.

Steer away from Craftsman power tools. They batteries die quite quickly. I tried giving them a second chance by buying another set of power tools but the batteries just died equally quick.

However any hand/mechanic tools I give them the thumbs up. A bit of a tip: check out yard sales swapmeets and or your father's old old rusty tools. If you find a rusty socket snatch it and get it replaced for free for a nice a shinny one at any Sears no questions asked.

I've had to open up the TV and just cut off the LED. Not everyone can do with opening up their tv and voiding their warranty but it works for me.

There is more than what meets the eye on these homes. "Casa Fay" the home with the IPE wood facade has 26 Nana Wall doors that are automated. I personally made this possible as my first project finishing my Undergraduate degree from Sci_Arc. I did not design the home but did design, fabricated, and installed the automated secondary system that opens and closes all the doors.

The following link is of my portfolio where it showcases this project:

Love picture #1. Looks like the owner tried to replicate his desk to an Apple retail store table. Or did he buy them.

Living in SoCal I must say I we are lucky. Found out that the first Apple Retail store was the Glendale Galleria Store. Have so many stories about the development of that store.

One story was that each of the Apple store tables cost them $60K a piece.
