Radishes are so cute, they always tempt me. But then I taste them and they're so yucky. Maybe roasting is the answer to this complicated relationship - gorgeous and tasty too. Recipe: Roasted Potatoes, Radishes & Fennel with Lemon Brown Butter Sauce Recipes from The Kitchn |

We did a modified lasagna to change a large weedy expanse of lawn into a flower bed. We used a tiller to cut up the grass and loosen the soil, then tilled in loads of compost. After planting, I put down a thick layer of newspaper and heavily mulched over it. A year later my perennials are flourishing, there is no grass, hardly any weeds (and they are easy to pull since their roots are in the mulch rather than the soil), and the rock hard clay has turned into a soft soil that is easy to dig. I was looking at storm doors at Home Depot just recently and they have ones where the frame is very minimal - they were called "fullview" and there was only a couple of inches of metal all the way around the glass so they wouldn't block the view of a pretty door.. Yes - when we bought our house, the bathroom (which has no windows) was painted mental institution beige and had a huge oily smoke stain on the ceiling above where the previous owner had burnt an eight inch diameter scented candle, apparently for years. I love Aura - I was able to cover a room that that had orange walls and a yellow ceiling with just two coats. I like their Color Preview and Color Stories (though it needs better greens) palettes, but find the classic colors to be a bit muddy. Consumer Reports Picks for Best Interior Paints: 2013 |

Categorizer and consumer - Pinterest has been incredibly useful to keep ideas and future purchases as I remodel/decorate my home. I wish Pinterest would let me drag and drop pins to rearrange within a board, then I'd be more of a collage-er as well. What Kind of Pinner Are You? 6 Types of Pinterest Users |

Cointreau is a classic, but I really like Licor 43 in my margaritas -- it's an orange-vanilla liqueur from Spain. Delicious! Spring Cocktail Recipe: The Perfect Orange-y Margarita The 10-Minute Happy Hour |

90 - Missed the last question on Colonials, which is ironic since they are the dominant architecture where I live (DC region), but perhaps not surprising since as a transplanted Californian, I've never really liked them. Design Quiz: Test Your Architecture IQ |

How timely - I'm about to hang the the ones shown in the last picture in the bedroom. I've been considering them for a while (love the rabbits) and lace curtains seem to be the solution to adding privacy while keeping light. I've have been second-guessing myself about whether lace curtains are too old fashioned. Guess not - these all look great. Kids Room Trend: White Lace Bedrooms |

Scherr's has all the measurements to drill for the hinges and drawers. I sent them a pdf of my Ikea planner diagram and they put together the list of pieces with questions like which side I wanted the hinge should go on. They are VERY helpful with doing cost estimates and letting you know where your order is in the queue and when it will be delivered. Really nice folks to work with. About a year and a half ago I remodeled my kitchen with Ikea boxes/drawers and Scherr's doors/fronts and they are still going strong. Love the soft close for the doors and drawer. Love the internal organizers, especially for my pull-out spice drawers. Love the deep drawers that can handle the weight of cast iron pots. It's true that they deliver everything in separate packages and pieces, but when I found one thing missing , it was no problem getting it replaced even though it was weeks after the shipment. My lower cabinets are all drawers -- I store pots, baking dishes, mixing bowls and all my small appliances -- I LOVE THEM. It's so nice not to have to get down on my knees and pull everything out of the cabinet to get the one thing I need that's all the way in the back. Do You Store Your Dishes in Drawers? Twenty years ago I rented a little mother-in-law studio when I was in grad school in Albuquerque - it was an adobe cottage with loads of light, high ceilings, a fireplace, what seemed like miles of 1940's green linoleum counter-top (my favorite color), a 40s gas stove with a griddle, a bathroom with a solarium big enough to put a dresser in and a back yard with flagstones around a huge cottonwood tree. And it was $240 a month (for an extra $10, the land lady let me use the washer and dryer). I LOVED that place! Tell Us: What Was The Best Rental You've Ever Had? |
