clearly tony and hillary's pod is the showstopper - but why, oh why ruin the streamlined, modern look of the apartment by topping the pod with curtains?! surely there are other options, e.g. sliding doors, one-way mirrors, honeycomb blinds, etc. that would better fit the overall design of the pod and the decor of the home...

i love the mini-bar on the bookshelf, and the picture wall! (i want to do one, but since i'm planning to sell next year, it's not practical)

here's an fyi: the Silk Road is now known as Marlboro Road - it's used to transport untaxed cigarettes, the profits of which are funneled to terrorist groups - a sad legacy :(

i can't believe such a simple idea as having the rod higer up makes such a difference! i HAVE to try that...

to those talking about litter boxes in small apartments, mine looks like a large planter with a nice silk fern on top... with the opening turned away from the room, one would never know it's a litter box (you could do your own thing with the top if you don't like silk plants - i have a black thumb so it works for me) google hidden litter or hiddnlitter(?)

fiddi - aboriginal art is absolutely right for traditional... think of the victorians - in that era, wealthy men would go on hunts and safaris all over the world, and brought back their artifacts to display.. they incorporated the art into rooms decorated with leather club chairs and persian rugs, etc... i have several afro/carribbean/indian statues that are displayed in my girly co-op!

jean and abstractionist - i hear ya... in nyc, everyone's got too much stuff and not enough space (sorry, "Space Bags"), and the recent craze for open shelving doesn't help... to calm and open up the space, hide your stuff behind doors or curtains which can then be used to display mirrors or other wall art... or use opaque doors and interior lights for a soft glow...

suessinc - a four-pronged ottoman sends you seething? you must have an idyllic life if this is the biggest thing you have to get worked up about!

i look for furnishings that are attractive and well made. if in doing so i happen to purchase a piece that is a replica of some "iconic" furniture design, i often don't realize it - and probably wouldn't care if i did.

the big-name furniture designers have little-to-nothing to lose when replicas of their designs start popping up; they're not competing for the same purchase dollars. those who love a genuine designer piece of furniture, and can afford it, will do so. those who have an eye for good design but cannot pay the price, will search for affordable items that approximate the look they want; if in the future they become able to pay designer prices, it is likely they will trade up.

many a bride has secretly walked up the aisle with a cz on her hand, only to have it replaced by a genuine diamond at a later date - who are we to criticize?
