We chose to cloth diaper our first child as well (she's now 8 months) and we LOVE it! We did opt for a service which has been so convenient, affordable and just amazing. It was a little scary to take that leap when we brought her home from the hospital, but after a few days (and some good laughs) we had the folding down and never looked back. I second your point about diaper rash. Our daughter has only had diaper rash once and that was because of an allergic reaction which caused severe diarrhea. I hardly ever use diaper cream, and besides that one bad day she's never had so much as a red speck on her bum.
What I've found most interesting however is that the aggression and lecturing I've found is from people who *don't* cloth diaper. Man! The lectures! It's all the same too - cloth diapering causes diaper rash, and I'm basically just letting my kid sit in her own poop/pee all the time. The opposite couldn't be more true, but I never really get a chance to offer my side of the story because the people I've encountered are so anti-cloth its kind of a one-sided argument. I do think you have to change your kid more often when they wear cloth, but ultimately - isn't that a good thing for any diaper wearer?
Anyway, I totally respect either choice. Its just that cloth was right for us. We do put her in disposables for nighttime and when we're on trips however. While convenient, I have to say after using both, I do prefer cloth in the end.

A Look Inside Cloth Diapers

Trying this tonight but ditching the dill since my husband hates it, and adding fresh peas because it sounds kind of yummy with the mint. Also I'm cheating and using canned beans - sorry - I'm just not that organized to soak the day before :)

Changing table for me - we just used an old dresser and added a changing pad. Its the best thing we ever did - I'm 6ft tall and when I use friend's changing tables I'm amazed at how low they are - by back would break - plus we have loads of counter space for supplies, wipes, and tossing clothes while changing!
Now that I'm making baby food one thing I don't miss is a baby food mill (like above) or any Beaba type food maker thing. I was prepared to spend a fortune on something that makes baby food, but ended up just using what I have in the kitchen...a good old fashioned steamer basket, a pot, a peeler and my Cuisinart. Super easy and that's one less giant contraption to sit on my counter.
Also, I may be the only one on earth but I never used the boppy. Just holding her to breastfeed was easier for me. (my husband likes it though)
DO love my glider however, passed on a modern-looking designer one and got an ugly Dutalier that reclines and has a high back. Still worth every penny. And I love LOVE my bottle warmer!! ;)

I use Seventh Generation liquid detergent for baby clothes (and our clothes), Better Life cleaning supplies for most everything else. I also like the Babyganics line from BabiesrUs - I use their diaper wipes and I like their cleaning wipes for quick spot cleans in the nursery.
