I purchased a heat-proof acrylic organizer that fits multiple styling tools and hairbrushes. It rests on a lazy susan under my sink. It's out of the way and easily accessible. Great Idea: Office File Organizer for Bathroom Appliance Storage Green Dream DIY |

When moving out of a rental studio condo we had to touch up the walls. Each wall 'looked' the same color until we realized the owner used 3 different shades of the same olive green color. Good thing they left a can of each. Too bad we had to try each one on each wall. Blah! The painting in our new condo is going much better. We like the colors, but the textured walls are a pain - there is no straight edge on any wall. Madness. Selecting Paint Colors: A Cautionary Tale |

We just started painting the interior of our condo. My soon-to-be hubby & I have different approaches: I go by instinct (how does the color make me feel; does it set the right mood for the room?), while he grabs a million paint chips. We went with my original selection and have been happy thus far. I'm not a crafty person, but now I have a ton of paint chips and feel guilty about trashing them. :( How Do You Choose a Paint Color? |

I agree that's impossible to recreate the daily struggles of low income and families below the poverty line. A good thing I've seen come from such "challenges" as the one in the article is that some people donate the money they don't spend to food programs. Yes, keep it clean and simple. In case you don't want to install a shelf above the sink; you can use a shelf extender for extra storage. If the shower doors are smooth, try adding a privacy window cling with a bamboo print to give it a serene and more custom look. Help! Making My "Horrid" Bathroom Calm & Clean? Good Questions |

Take pictures and make copies of notes! I just moved out of a place that had a mgmt firm work with me on move-in, but they were no longer using them. That firm didn't have immediate access to the move-in notes (lots of details / imperfections noted on move-in). I left the place better than found, but could tell (heard the couple) that they didn't want to give me back my deposit - even though they got to keep $200 as per the lease. Money makes people do funny things. Protect yourself: know the rules, put things in writing and let them know you will consider all your options (including small claims court, etc). Be firm, but polite. How To: Get Back Your Security Deposit |

I also use the T.J. lavender sachets. I'm not particularly fond of lavender, but the scent is light enough that it doesn't bother me. I just ordered some wool dryer balls from Green Beanz - getting rid of the yucky blue plastic ones my fiancé used. Doing Laundry the Danny Seo Way |

This reminds me of my grandparents' general store in Mexico. People came in and bought what they needed: one bar of soap, a couple of eggs, one stick of gum (!). I live alone and hate having to overpurchase items. America's First Packaging-Free Grocery Store Good |

I like to use a similar technique for trips. I use presentation folders for short trips and binders for road trips. I put my itinerary, maps, ideas, etc in clear sleeves with date tabs - it's easy to find what I need and I can swap out pages as we go along (putting the current day in front) and keep ticket stubs or things we collect along the way together. My current living space, a small studio, is my favorite. Although there is an alcove for the "bedroom" area, due to how cold it gets (un-insulated windows and walls), I've had to move all of my living quarters into the main living area (12x16). My inspiration was a post on rental apartments in France – lots of defined areas, no clutter. I've managed to make the space into a living room and bedroom. I also have a wardrobe that has a mirror on one of the doors, a makeshift mudroom (nice looking shoe rack and sofa table) and a small folding bookcase that also displays my small mementos. I'll miss it when I move in with my boyfriend, but I'm looking forward to creating a lovely home together. Awww. Half a Kitchen, And Other Bedrooms I Have Known |
