the OCD in me is just twitching that the number pillows are out of order, but then, that's why I don't have number pillows :) Before & After: Vintage Settee MakeoverKnot All that I Seam |

Towel = YES. Although we rented a furnished apartment, we had a frantic search for a store that sold towels and pillows for the first night there. What to Bring or Acquire Immediately When Moving Abroad Setting Up Home |

"vintage furniture"? So that makes the articulated side lamp by the sofa vintage right? Oh poop. On Trend in Europe: The Handcrafted Hippie Home Look |

Agree with everyone. We bought our first house earlier this year and eliminated dozens of potential houses because some estate agent had told the owners that they needed to update the kitchen to sell, and they did, as fast and cheap as possible. We ended up buying a house with a new-ish kitchen that doesn't need redoing, but was clearly done to the owner's taste and high quality. 5 Remodel Projects with the Highest Return on Investment Angie's List Magazine |

I too have the 80's bright peach-pink tile, with matching sinks, tub, and laminate vanity (with, of course, the pink tile as the countertop). Setting Up Home: Making Inherited Designs Look Deliberate |

the white appliances are very nice, and lovely with white cabinets, but I don't get the stainless hate either. My kitchen came with really lovely, custom-built maple cabinetry and yes, black granite countertops. White would look completely out of place and custom fronts for everything would be expensive and impractical. The rest of us need appliances too! Beyond Stainless Steel: White Kitchen Appliances |

There was one in our house when we bought it (in the form of a built-in plastic tray by a window in the dining room). We ripped it out the same day we took possession of the house because No Outdoor Space? An Indoor Rock Garden |

we built one ourselves that looks a lot like #9 using plans from Ana White. We modified them to make it wider so it would fit our space and we could set travertine tiles in the center to act as trivets. We also did a dark stain and paste wax finish. my backspash also goes all the way to the vent hood and is a decorative mosaic, so no othe decoration needed. I keep a stainless spoon-rest by the stove (that gets put through the wash at least once a week). Count me with the people baffled by keeping anything decorative by the stove because it will inevitably be damaged and dirty. Even my kettle is electric and kept on the other side of the kitchen. @lillielechic we have the ikea chair in white in our daughter's room. The ceiling joist is more than sufficient to hold our swinging toddler (who takes a running start to really get it going) and/or her parents (we bought hardware for it rated up to 250lbs). It's a great option, although to have enough space to swing it really takes up exponentially more floorspace than a regular chair. High & Low: Hanging Chairs |

lol! two of the four walls in my bathroom are basically window which we don't cover because of the beautiful views looking out, looking in not so much. Our nearest neighbors would need binoculars to see us though, so I figure if they are going to that much trouble to get a glimpse of my flabby, pasty ass then let em! we do a hammock too (not the Amby), and it's a godsend. They work just fine until the baby starts to want to roll around in their sleep (6-7 months) and then you have to transition them. By that point our daughter was good to go into a toddler-size bed with rails. We'll see how our son (3 weeks old) goes but he LOVES the hammock for now. Liz, my husband and I built a storage bench for an awkward nook in our kitchen. It was an easy weekend project. Making a cushion for it is another story, but it's totally a do-able DIY. Inspiration: Happy Kitchen Nooks |
