If you look at other work she's done on her website, you'll see she's got quite an eye. It's not my style but I can appreciate her style -- quite sophisticated, good color sense and daring. Tops a lot of the "designers" you see in magazines today -- clutter without taste. Could live without the wallpaper and would like to see a little more breathing room. But kudos for originality combined with good taste. Apartment Therapy New York | House Tour: Mirka & Iain's London VictorianLondon, England |

Those are lovely thoughts made especially meaningful since my mother passed away last week, quite expectedly at 88 from Alzheimer's Disease. The occasion brought abundant remembrances from family and friends of the days spent in my parents' home along with my two sisters. Their home was a small 3 bedroom ranch without the benefit of today's "great room" for gathering. In spite of that, our childhood friends preferred to come to our home where my mother was so welcoming and fun. As a family, we squeezed into a small knotty-pine paneled den with a large recliner for my father, but our memories from that 1500 square foot home are as large as those might be in a 4500 square foot home. Certainly, my mother would have loved a home with all the amenities but we all think she was more fortunate to have had three loving daughters (and now 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren) and know that our life in that tiny home produced a tight-knit family with the values we have today. Yes, my own tastes lean toward mid-century modern and clean white spaces. However, I have pieces from that small family home that are indeed precious to me. Gregory is correct to say that we should not be judgmental of other's habitats, but try to envision the life that goes on there irregardless of the furnshings, tasteful to the discerning eye or not. Yeah, the movie makeover of Carrie's apartment. They "glossed" over the makeover in the movie -- but it was so different than Carrie originale. Very uncharacteristic makeover. What were they trying to say with that? Apartment Therapy New York | DIY Sex and the City: Interior Design NotesEmail from 5.29.08 |
