I have sauteed them before. It took a while longer than with kale and chard. Chop the greens into 2 inch pieces, pour some cooking oil into a pan, sautee on medium heat, turn frequently, season with salt and pepper, finish with a splash of balsamic vinegar.

I'm also curious to hear about other peoples' experiences with this.

It looks great, but considering its material, I worry about its durability. Can it withstand the heat of a fireplace? Or the moisture of a kitchen?

Dimara,

I came across this book on Amazon recently:

An exhaust fan in the bathroom is critical, to pass code or not. You need to minimize your bathroom's moisture level, or else you'll be creating a serious mold issue. It doesn't take long. I'd put function above form and make sure to install a powerful fan; if it happens to be pretty too, more the better. Good luck!

I really wish you can all taste this. I'm working away on my computer (yes, working, only to take the occassional break to visit this site) and munching on a cucumber as I type. Soon enough, there'll be nothing left for the salad tonight.

ami,

The cucumbers are heavenly. My friend's an organic farmer, and they were picked the morning that he arrived. I took a bite out of one yesterday and moaned. The flavours were surprisingly complex, and so delicious.

Thanks Faith, and thank you all. Yes, a great majority of the peppers are green. My house is currently under renovation, so there is no heat. The temperature hovers just above 50 degrees. I’ll see about ripening some in a paper bag; hopefully they won’t find it too cold.

The tomatoes and cucumbers will go into a salad tonight. I have some chorizo in the fridge, and that’ll be sautéed up with some of the peppers.

The pipérade is a great idea (had it at the restaurant Piperade in San Francisco and loved it). After that, I think I’ll just roast and freeze the rest.

Interestingly, there are a few varieties of peppers in the basket. Some look like the regular peppers, some are long and pointy at the end, and some are shaped like a large teardrop. I’m sure there are different ways to best prepare each.

bls,

1. Season as you cook.
2. When a recipe calls for browning the meat, brown the meat.
3. Add a squirt of lemon juice to your dishes after you turn off the heat.

I also second the motion sensor light, or really, just a circle of outdoor patio lights (they're about $10 a piece) around the tree. Give the tree and the thief visibility. I doubt the friendly sign (or the shame factor) will work.

My favorite recipe is from this book:

It's simple and straightforward, and the result is very much on par with the luscious tiramisus I'd have in Europe. A friend’s mother once told me that the key to an authentic tiramisu is to use Amaretto, not Kahlua, and not Grand Marnier.

My neighbour's cat does ALL of its business in my garden, front and back. A fence wouldn't keep it away, and I don't feel like poisoning the cat, yet. Any ideas?
