I'd say leave the view alone for a few months (or weeks at least) and then decide after you've lived in the space how best to adjust the window treatments. I think industrial behemoths are kind of cool to look at. You might find the steam/smoke trails and lights kind of interesting after a while.

I also think if moving in you are thinking "oh I hate that view, I have to cover it up" you are already setting yourself up for some misery. If you can instead accept it or find something positive about the view from the windows, you'll be happier with what you've got... even if you decide to go for some fancy window scheme.

But maybe I'm drinking too much zen kool-aid this morning....

I just made scones from Alice Water's Art of Simple food -- they call for whole wheat pastry flour (and are tasty). Whole wheat pastry flour, local cream (I used half and half), orange zest, cranberries, and a sugar sprinkle on top.

You should keep the pastry flour cool or in fridge.

Ditto the manicure remarks -- really necessary. Where the manicure itself is not offensive, the commentary polish color is offensive. Why does polish color matter to a home decor blog?

I've also heard of screw paint bleeding through if not properly primed before painting -- so it could possibly not be moisture related.

I love making ice cream but for the side swipe, I might use it to whip up some icing or meringue -- just to see it in swipey glory.

Beautiful lamp. I would give it a good home. But how is the contest ending before it begins on Jan 15th?

It's the belt. Belts are cheap and easily found online -- google your record player name belt and you should be able to fine on that fits. You remove the platter and check out the underpinnings -- but generally you slip the belt around the platter and then to a spindly thing on the motor. You may want to check out your current belt before ordering a new one -- it could have just slipped of during the move. Also experiment putting the loose belt on before you try with the tighter new one.

This is an *easy* and simple machine kind of fix. I'm a girl -- mildly mechanically inclined so I have no experience with stereo guts. The biggest hurdle here is the intimidation factor. Pull of the platter and look at the innards!

cheers,
Jayme

Oh I covet the 5.5 quart dutch oven. I have a smaller size (in a conveniently complimentary color) and would LOVE a larger pan. I also have the roasting pan so would re-gift that even though it is the BEST roasting pan in the world (totally worth it). I'd stick a chicken in the dutch oven and prompty empty it out so I could try out some no knead bread... and then fill it again with a happy winter stew... and empty it again for a cinnamon raisin loaf...
