I put them in almost anything. When I make tomato sauce, I add the bay leaf in when im sauteing the onion and garlic in oil to get the infusion started.

I'm sure you know that fresh are less pungent than dried and rubbing them a little opens up their flavors.

i HAVE this oven, not the exact same model but very similar. My experience is that if you pull the broiler door our about 6" and crack the door, it's about 350-400. Just fiddle with it, you will get the hang off it.

i caught my boyfriend of 2 years cheating on me the week before christmas, the week after our parents met and just before i purchased the engagement ring i spent months searching for. it hurt. we didn't even live together, but the this was the house we were planning on starting our lives in. he decorated it and put a lot of energy into it. it dripped with the painful reminder of him - i hated being at home.

first, i emptied the contents of my bar into my stomach, slept for a week and then CLEANED. every square inch was fresh and sparkling. I rearranged furniture, changed art work, bought new sheets and bed spread, switched rugs, just did a lot to make it feel like a fresh new space.

considering the nature of our split, i gave him a very short and highly monitored window of time to collect and remove his things. everything else was tossed, torched or donated.

open a few windows, light a candle, say a prayer, chase their spirit out of the house and remember that life goes on. 6 months later, I'm 20lbs lighter, I'm doing better at work, my friends and family are saying they see a light in me that's been out for years, and I met someone who is the most amazing man - - I'm wiser for the experience and you will be too.

My boyfriend has wanted to make a shrimp recipe he found a few weeks ago; so planned to do that last night. I worked late and went to the gym, he worked late and got his hair cut. We met at wholefoods, couldn't find half of the proper ingredients and didnt start cooking until almost 9. we fumbled the israeli couscous, over cooked the shrimp and unseasoned the sauce - we ended up eating chips and guacamole. it wasn't very good but we had a blast making it. misadventures in the kitchen can be very enjoyable with the right people.

I live in Philadelphia, so one of my favorite question is "where do you live?" Philadelphia, like so many other cities, is full of so many different neighborhoods that people always have something to say. Good restaurants, farmers markets, bars, interesting shops, etc.

I don't like asking "what do you do?" I am genuinely interested in what people do but a lot of times they are not.

I know I'm going to sound like a debbie downer - but nothing. All of the vegetables I used now are frozen, nothing has that really vibrant flavor or color. Winter foods are just so heavy and unappealing to me; I can't wait to make....something in the spring.

If I do it to my sister - i get a crossed eyed look, a refill on my wine, and pointed to the living room

If I do it to my mother - I get a crossed eyed look, a smack with the spatula and pointed to the living room

If I do it to a friend - I get my wine replaced with cooking utensils, an apron, and lose my comfy to seat to the host, who is now reclined and enjoying the conversation while I'm left in the kitchen

Just refill your wine and enjoy the conversation :)

Wings! guys generally love wings. teach them how to prepare a healthier baked version and ways to change up the flavorings for them. Rice, millet, quinoa, barley etc are all cheap grains that are easy to cook. I know everyone espouses the virtues of fresh over frozen vegetables, but if they're on a budget and low on time, frozen vegetables keep longer, cost less and are usually better in nutrients than fresh.

As a single guy, i generally prefer meals that can come together in a pan in about 15 minutes or something i can pop in the oven and do other stuff while its cooking.

i made my first "pie" this past weekend using the recipe below. I've messed up almost every pastry recipe ever and this worked great, even after i had to reshape because i didnt add enough flour to my surface when rolling it out.

don't give it up for free and don't patent it! if it's patented, then the recipe is public knowledge and everybody can find out how to make them. recipes like the formula for coke or kfc's chicken are highly guarded, so much so that the recipes are split between top execs so no one person knows the whole recipe. I'm sure your cookies are far better than coke or kfc. Maybe, if the cookie required a certain spice blend or ingredient list over a special process, package the ingredients and sell them in batches to the chef and the public. Price them to cover your costs, to create a brand for them, for their specialness and then a little pocket money for yourself.

what kind of magic cookies are these anyway, i'd love to know?
