I'd be VERY careful about using diatomaceous earth INSIDE the house. Like she said, it's similar to drywall dust, i.e. it gets EVERYWHERE; and clean-up is a HUGE hassle.

Love reading your words! Would like to have seen a picture of YOU - but you're probably hiding behind that bass line, aren't you?! Keep up the good work/play!

This is magnificent and I'm sorry so many of the comments are sort of filppantly rude, even the ones that passively-aggressively "sound" neutral.

It was interesting for me to read that you're "living in a more relaxed way," unless it's because there's no mortgage to have to go out and earn? I find that living in a teeny-tiny space actually creates MORE work but since I'd love to downsize, would be VERY glad to hear that's not necessarily true?

I brush my teeth with baking soda, but it does irritate my underarms. And BTW, I don't shave - thankfully, I lived in Europe as a teen and got out of that anti-female habit. Can you imagine men putting up with a 5 o'clock shadow in an area of their body that RUBS against itself? I didn't think so. Women have been brainwashed to think the hair "holds the smell." Silliness. If anything holds it, it's going to be the clothing. Lack of hair doesn't keep the sweat from existing!

Anti-perspirants do, though. I'm convinced they're a big contributor to breast cancer. Imagine plugging up the route our body uses to eliminate toxins. Brilliant.

Cutting-edge dentists are quick to point out that the "don't use baking soda on your teeth" is flouride-industry propaganda, and I agree. Flouride calcifies your pineal gland, the seat of intuition. And it's toxic waste from aluminum mining. And has been proven to NOT decrease cavities. Sorry, but right now it's up for a vote in my city. Hot button.

I appreciate the heads-up about the tea tree oil.

Great post, and I will try it. The "crystal" deodorant used to work for me but recently, seems to have little effectiveness.

@certainmuse, funny! I saw that first pic in the thumbnail and thought it might be a "before" picture. My stairs tend to end up looking that way and I just last week cleaned up all the mid-way baskets and boxes, to repainted the steps. And of course it feels SO MUCH BETTER! As a display, I have no problem with it but yeah...

Yes, the room in my house that seems most like an office just didn't feel good. It's now a dressing and storage room, and the dining room is my office. The latter overlooks the creek and has a view of tall trees, a wooded area. Makes "work" a thousand times more palatable!

A piece can have the 'relaxing' elements (beat frequency, etc) yet also, overlaid, have disturbing messages that 'go in' better because of the former. This is dangerous manipulation.

It's a very old and well-known trick, actually. There's something about the speed of images shown on TV that has the effect of lulling people into non-questioning complacency.

With all the high-level manipulation of people's psyches going on, I wouldn't trust some think-tank that's likely funded by none other than the manipulators.

After I listened to the first song, as soon as it stopped, I found that my jaw released - meaning, the song had tightened it up. So, yeah. Use discrimination.

I live just a quarter mile from the city limits of Portland, where roosters are illegal. That means all my chicken-keeping neighbors have roosters legally. The noise is abominable. Of course, THEY all work away from home. Passive aggressive you-know-what-kind-of-holes.

Wow, THANK YOU for this! I had no idea these inexpensive options were out there!

I ditched my $70-a-month ridiculous Comcast bill (and that was with only VERY basic TV) and haven't regretted it once. But it would still be nice to at least HAVE some TV reception available.

Great shopping suggestions, much appreciated! Also Yasue's suggestion about JC Penney.

I used to sew all my clothes so years later when a friend asked for help doing simple curtains for her daughter's room, I thought "no sweat." But yes, somehow it was way harder than we'd expected. As I remember, it was because her fabric was printed a bit wonky, so it was impossible to get real square ends. Something to keep in mind when fabric shopping, maybe.

*d'oh, I wasn't clear: my point was, you don't have to put water in the trash can and drown the mouse; he'll be stuck in there and you can just release him outdoors, ba da boom.

A variant on this suggestion: "Fill a medium size garbage can halfway with water and put a glob of peanut butter at the edge and leave out overnight. The mouse will will fall in trying to eat peanut butter and drown. Sad, but no more mouse."

I once woke up to find a mouse in my sink, trying unsuccessfully to jump out. I simply grabbed an old coffee can and held it where he'd fall into it on his next jump. EASIEST CATCH EVER! I hope he enjoyed his new home in the back yard.

SO MANY COMMENTS! Clearly, if you had any shame about having mice, you can let that go! Happens to just about everyone.

Rucy's talking to her vole is so inspiring. It doesn't have to be out loud or anything. Sincerity of intent should be enough.

After you try that, if it hasn't seemed to work, and a live trap ditto, and you're on the next step which is spring traps: I just read that mice tend to keep to the wall when they travel, so lining traps up lengthwise against the wall is smart. They even said you don't really need bait.

Poison should be an absolute last resort. Mainly, it's a horrible slow death. AND, then often you can't find the carcass though you can smell it - and the smell can last for years, I'm told.

Good luck!

I think they're all unexpected. I like the one where you can look out the garage door from the desk (seasonally, anyway - but it looks like a glass door, so - cool!). I've found that desks in convenient but closed-off spaces don't work for me. Being able to see nature whenever I glance up makes a HUGE difference in my state of mind!
