Yes, I am sick of the word "declutter". Can we find a new word for 'getting rid of excess crap you don't need?' :)

I have been in exact same situation. Get a note from your doctor saying you must break your lease for your health and that you can not continue to live there with the smoke. I have asthma too. I didn't have to pay a penalty and got most of my deposit back when I left.

I'd like to say don't take #4 going "adulty" to the extreme, and buy everything to go with beige or white. My home is my refuge from visiting most other peoples' houses that are decorated with the same types of items to go with their beige walls. Especially wine themed wall hangings or stencils.

Towels & bed linens are washed together, jeans by themselves, delicates by themselves, and everything else is piled together. Usually everything is washed in cold.

BTW does anyone have suggestions for a garment that has some leather? I have a beautiful sleeveless dress that says "dry clean only by a leather specialist" (paraphrased here) because it has a leather collar. Wore it as long as I could this summer before it became nasty. Finally broke down and took it to be cleaned, and the bill was almost $30 because of the leather! That was more than I paid for the dress- was over $100 orig but got on closeout for like $20. I haven't worn it since because of that, waiting for special occasions now because of the cleaning cost. Think it's safe to hand wash with gentle detergent because of the collar?

What Would You Like to Hear More About?

I got New Mexico which I'm OK with given the sentiment the state has according to the quiz. I live in Kansas (born and raised, and can't wait to leave it... even if it's for neighboring Missouri...), was hoping for Washington or Oregon- where I dream of living.

Quick Quiz: What's Your \"State\" of Mind?

I share kevoncubine's sentiment. All the baby/nursery/kid centric craft posts are getting a little old. Yes I can skip them, but I'm finding myself skipping more and more articles lately. I live in a small space, so I come for small space related advice. My husband and I live in a an older small house and so many people around our end of town leave the rubber Little Tykes toys all over their yards, it looks tacky IMHO.

Do You Do Each Other's Laundry?
10/4/13 11:34 AM

I've been doing most of ours since we moved in together, and we are now married. It's not because I'm the wife, but it's because I'm a little type A on what setting I want certain things washed. I don't want delicate things thrown with jeans or towels and I wash everything in cold. Also I get picky with which of my garments I want to air dry vs. what is thrown in the dryer.

I'd take several months of drizzle over bitter cold and snow hands down- of course we've had a few bad midwestern winters here the past few years and I'm so over winter now. Same goes for hot summers- temperate sounds nice.

My apartment the last 2 years I was in college- $295 a month for a 1BR, 1 bath, water & trash included. It was laid out like an old motel with a kitchenette that had a refrigerator from the 1950s, and a sliding door that separated the bedroom from the living room. I lived there from 2000-2002. It had cinder block walls too. I remember my mom once asking my landlord if it actually was an old motel at one time and he claimed it wasn't. Now I think that same place is renting for over $400 a month when I found one in the same building on Craigslist once.

The Cheapest Rent I Ever Had

I'd like to add my two cents here. I live in one of the suburbs on the Kansas side of KC. Yes it's full of chain stores and businesses, I personally don't care for it and only moved here to be close to where my job was at the time.I don't have nor plan to have any children for the schools here. I put up with the stereotypes even though I know I am different than that deep down. I'd like to move closer to the Plaza/Waldo area hopefully someday- but I'd like to clarify that not ALL people who live out here are ultra-conservative and think they'll get shot at if they venture over to the Missouri side. I am quite liberal and a good chunk of people I know over here seem pretty moderate overall. JoCo did go 60-40 in the 2012 election so if 40% of the county voted blue despite KS being a very red state, that's promising.

I'm shocked no one has brought up Google Fiber coming to town! Within the next few years many homes and businesses in KC area will be wired up with symmetrical gigabit fiber- up to 100x faster than home internet that you can access right now at very reasonable prices.
