Here's a source I don't see on the Pinterest board -- Anita Lehman's city alphabets -- here's Portland: http://www.etsy.com/listing/58825564/portland-oregon-print-city-alphabet-2 She also has Santa Fe and Seattle (which I have, it's awesome) and I think she's working on San Francisco. There's also a bug alphabet and an architect's alphabet. Love!

Gotta put in a plug for the Stylus Cap, which pops right onto a Sharpie, is sustainable (tips are replaceable), nice firm tip, and made in the USA. I have one and it is brilliant, for writing and sketching both. $25, at http://more-real.com/

Rejuvenation has a beautiful one that you can customize (finish and shade) and it comes in two versions, one hard-wired and one that plugs in.

They are $285 and $300, respectively, although choosing a different shade might change the price.

A matching set of drapes to the ones I bought at one of the fleas in Paris. I wasn't sure they were going to work, and just the one pair was already incredibly heavy (velvet, and lined, and insanely long), and it was just me walking and Metro-ing it between there and home...so I bought the one pair and when I got home and realized how perfect they were I knew I had to go back for the other pair. I was at the vendor's stall as early as possible the next morning and they were gone, of course. C'est la vie.

Flannel FTW! Try Garnet Hill or The Company Store for beautiful colors.

There's a similar chair sitting on the curb down the street from me, it's been there for a week or so -- if I didn't have a million other things going, I'd pick it up and try this! If anyone in Seattle wants to grab it, it's on the west side of 31st Ave S, between Irving and Day streets.

If you have or used to have oil heat, it could be soot from that, coming through the vents. Definitely would try the city health dept. etc. for advice as others have suggested.

The DC site solution seems problematic for two reasons -- safety (putting the metal Uno fitter so close to the socket wiring?) and practicality -- you'd have to take the socket off any time you wanted to take the shade off!

If they have "slip Uno fitters" (google it) like my French lamps/shades have, you won't have any luck with the various Uno fitter adapters out there. They work on a different type of Uno fitter. Not as easy to find a lamp that takes slip Uno shades. IKEA has a couple I believe. Pottery Barn used to sell lamps that took slip Uno fitters but it looks like they've gone to harps.
