I have two rentals; one where my husband & I give pretty much free reign (WITH NOTICE!) and one where I won't allow any changes (condo) aside from painting.

If I showed up and they'd done renovations without permission (aside from very nicely done paint), nicely or not, I'd be pissed off and probably keep their deposit.

Saw this done on a design show somewhere; except they painted the walls a teal color and black trim. It looked *amazing* !

The whole "dust on black" factor is the sticking point for me though. I'd go manic!

It's more "classic" styled than I want for me, but I LOVE IT. It's so well put together, and I love that it's not just another catalogue copy. Especially love the red curtains on the bed.

Great job!

I would DIE for a foyer like that! My parents had a house in Westmount, built in 1913, and man, I miss it...no crazy awesome foyer though.

What area is yours? Nutana, King George, Westmount, Caswell? I have no design suggestions except leave the bench. I think it's kind of classy (of course pictures VS in person could be completely different!).

Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

Approx. 800 sq. foot home, no fancy architechtural features, literally just a square box with 8 windows. Approx. $3,000 worth of siding and 2 days work done by us. Super easy! I'd never pay anyone to do it after seeing how simple it was, even for me (the least handy person in all of humanity).

Before & After: A $70 Bathroom Makeover That Looks Like A Million Bucks

I was quoted $495-650 to recover a knockoff Eames lounger & ottoman, plus material (I don't know how that could possibly be; it is a VERY simple piece!). I passed, and did it myself. Cost me $80 for fabric, buttons (done by the fabric shop) & piping, and about 6 hours of work.

I think it's totally worth paying someone if you have a piece with sentimental value, or good workmanship, or even just a nice design. However, at the price I was quoted, I don't even want to guess what they would have quoted me for a larger piece....

You know, it's up to each person to do what they feel comfortable with, assuming they've done their research and know the risks.

If you're comfortable taking the risks, do it. If you're not, don't.
