If you have an ugly ceiling fan that performs a necessary service, try flipping the blades (many with ugly rattan or etched designs are plain on the other side) and painting the entire fan unit to match the ceiling.

I'll be the dissenting voice then...this is so cool. Love how the mismatched crates are given a cohesive look and classed up. I'd make it so it was usable storage shelves though...or hinge the top if they were right side up.

Great article but I'm still disappointed. I thought the title read "The Pirate Bath."

You could also use a plant stand...the sort that holds a balcony box.

I have a folk art cow and a painted rock bug. No sophisticated vignette here!

Porch furnishings are great; much superior to matched adirondacks and the standard stuff.

It's beautiful, and for the purely practical minded, improving aesthetics does have positive impact on community. Art has a key and fundamental role in community development. Fostering the creative process and helping people believe in the existence of alternative solutions and envision them as real is what EVERY development effort requires for success. Fixing up lobbies and staircases will have zero lasting impact if people do not believe it is worthwhile to maintain them. Art and ONLY art gives us that creative mentality and the faith to aspire for a new future. So don't knock the spray paint.

My understanding of "a few simple changes and a very small budget" are worlds apart from AT's. Despite that, the place looks great.

Homes like this make me unsettled. I start questioning the plethora of items with a purely decorative value ... but then a collection of blown glass would be purely decorative ... however, it could be justified as art, as differentiated from crafts or cool junk ... and does that matter ... and is it salvaged when it is made into a craft with no durability ... and when does decor become just clutter ... and yet isn't the creativity and uniqueness just beyond judgment and to be appreciated for itself ... yeah, too many questions so I find no serenity in such surroundings!

75 sq ft limit really does exclude the vast majority of us. I live in a teeny home but even my daughter's room is 8x10.

Love it. Agree the bookshelf seems out of place and the table is too small, but overall the effect with the new dark walls, turquoise accents, chandelier and white curtains is great.

I love woodgrain but detest crappy veneer and quite cheerfully painted my kitchen cupboards. I used 100% latex the first time, on the recommendation of the paint store, but the second time used melamine with better results.

What a great way to think creatively and make some space for the nursery. The black and white often gets an unreceptive reaction from adults but babies love contrast and it's advised as a colour scheme for newborns. Great job.

While it seems incredibly small to many on here, remember this apt would be considered quite satisfactory or even large in a great many countries. Also, children do not require their own bedroom or a plethora of accoutrements and toys to be healthy and happy, and co-sleeping is extremely practical and normal.
