I heard a great rule of thumb on the Nate Berkus show about painting furniture- if it's 19th century or earlier, it's a true antique and you shouldn't mess with it. It severely decreses the value. If it's newer than that (1900's) it's vintage and you can paint away... it's prob not THAT valuable that you shouldn't make it into something you love and want to live with.

I tend to know my DIY limits on big ticket items. But with the smaller stuff, I like to try everything once. I hide a lot of my DIY projects in the 'closet of shame' when I'm done with them, but I enjoyed the creative process while I was doing it and hopefully learn to do it better next time. Or I learn when I should hand it off to the professionals!

I recently ran across this idea on how to display children's artwork, and it could work well for this too. It's basically a really large frame with a white mat. Each piece is displayed in clean lines and rows. The key is that you leave a lot of white space in between each 'piece' (or sticker in your case). Hope you find some inspiration here. I agree with all the other comments about turning it into fabric. If that doesn't work out, you could use some of the left over wall paper to line the inside of a coffee table tray, or make a cover for a hard bound book. THere are other ways to incorporate the pattern you love into your living space. Good luck

It's so hard to find good bins that aren't fabric or some kind of wicker which really doesn't hold up over time, especially in the kitchen... These are great options. Thanks for hunting them down for us.

absolutely add curtains. It's for the look. It would add a lot of depth and softness to your room. Plus in my opinion your room is a little bit blah with a HUGE pop of red in the couch on only one side of hte room. A darker curtain color would help balance the room out.

Perfect timing for this post. Today we picked up tile for a kitchen backsplash, a new front door, mulch and patio pavers for a new front patio we're DIYing. Wish us luck, we're gonna need it.

Do not paint your cabinets. THe color is great and that's a lot of work. DO paint the walls in the kitchen a different color- they blend in with the wood. The tile backsplash is a great idea, but I wouldn't go too out there with the color. I would also add easy accents that others suggested (plants, rungs, window treatment). I would consider getting another pot rack that is not stainless, it blends in with your appliances. Or you could consider painting it to coordinate with your new accessories (think apple red). Also, if it the occassion allows -an inexpensive but temporary solution is a nice glass bowl of fruit- either limes, lemons, oranges, red or green apples. There are lots of options there. Nice kitchen, but you're right it needs some color

So fun! I love looking at beautiful things too (Even when I can't afford them). It really does inspire me to be more thoughtful and creative in my own purchases. A piece with a history or a story behind it is so much more meaningful in your home.

I know I'm commenting a little late here- but geesh. This post wasn't about her shelf. It was about the mirror. You know- The mirror found on the street and made useful and pretty for zero dollars.

And don't be so harsh on the corner shelf. We all have that random corner (or counter or closet) that could use a little interesting kick. Or a nicer shelving or a new paint color. I think the author was brave to show us her "struggling corner" that got a little pick me up. everyone should be a little nicer.

I just saw that Costco is selling a chair for $30 that is a lot like a leg o matic. It's wood and fabric. If you recovered the plain beige fabric with something a little more fun, it could be really great. Great post!

Guilty!! I am not only a supply hoarder, I'm a starter kit hoarder. I just like to know how to do different crafts. So I buy all the supplies to learn something new, do it once or twice and move on. It is bad people! bad! I finally gave away my jewelry bead board (and assorted supplies).

It helped when I had to scale down my 'craft room' into a 'craft cabinet' to make room for our nursery. I just put all the junk I didn't want anymore (light box for paper embossing- check, old paper I never liked anyway - check, rubber stamps when I switched to clear ones - check!), and I got $50 for it all on Craigslist. Felt good! Now I hoard organizational supplies and baskets...

Thanks for identifying my disease.

I love this idea! I think I will use a handmade piece of pottery. I have a shallow dish that would be perfect. The possibilities are endless- jewelry holder in the bathroom, key and sunglasses spot by the front door. Bedroom catch-all makes it to the top of the list. Genious!

Yay for DIY projects and uphostering those chairs themselves! Great fabric choices. I wish my apartment was as bright and cheery, and I am glad they didn't let their kid over run their space with 'plastic' stuff! Good choice.
