I can personally vouch for this as I spent about 2 hours this afternoon at work organizing our hotel's box of random chargers. This isn't just for cellphones, either, I found a few electric razor chargers and some camera battery chargers (and one charger for a DS). An added perk, the hotel will likely let you keep the charger. One less piece of crap behind the desk!

The worst injury(s) I had were during my short stint as a Prep Cook at a Cooker restaurant. I was taking trays of bacon out of the oven (stacked 5 high, which is TOTALLY safe). When I stepped back to let someone through the close quarters, I tripped on a box right behind me. When I leaned back to get my balance several trays slid toward my face, and the corner of one burned a number-7 shape in my neck. Luckily I was wearing a thick chef coat, so all the boiling hot grease was stopped from burning my neck, shoulders and chest. In reaction to the pain, I tipped forward and dumped all seven full-sheet pans full of bacon onto the floor. My manager was PISSED.

I also sliced into a chunk of my left middle finger while cutting chicken strips. I think that was the last sign that told me to get out of the prep Kitchen before I did serious damage! No stitches, but I still have the scar on the tip of my finger.

We both think Lisa making into the final three is one more piece of evidence that the producers would rather have good tv than the best chefs in the finale. Does anyone else remember Sam going home, and Padma crying as she told him? Last night was a similar occurrence, as padma choked up when she asked Antonia to pack her knives. I think undercooking beans is a much smaller mistake than making three bad tasting dishes. If Lisa wins, I swear I'm not watching next year, I've been burned too many times by these damn producers.

Thank you for posting this! I first heard of the "Classic Daquiri" in an Esquire Magazine a few years ago. Apparently, it was a fave of old Stalwarts like, Hemingway, JFK etc. And I can tell you from experience, it is a totally classic cocktail. So crisp, refreshing, sturdy, and best of all, gender-neutral! I often joke about the lack of tasty, non-girly drinks out there, but thanks to these cocktail posts, I'm beginning to think otherwise :-D The tasty drinks exist, they've just fallen out of favor, pushed aside by neon, super-potent, syrupy concoctions.

Actually, the first time I had a "Classic Daquiri", I had to explain it to the bartender, but boy, once i tasted it, it was worth the explanation. Like a tart, punched up lemonade. YUM!

Creme Fraiche!

Just buttermilk and Heavy Cream.

Once you've got the creme fraiche (ie- tomorrow) you can tweak into a delicious vanilla creme with some vanilla extract and a touch of sugar. With fresh berries (or frozen) in a Champagne Flute (or other tall, narrow glass) and you've got a fantastically delicious warm weather parfait.

Love it.

I love pimms! I had my first at a pub in english countryside. Quite beautiful and it remains a favorite of mine. I've been rationing the one bottle of Pimms No. 1 I brought back with me, because I'm not entirely sure where I can get in the states. I've never seen it at normal liquor stores in Ohio, possibly a specialty store?

Man! I would KILL for a urinal in the bathroom! Although, I want the floor-to-chest model...and a direct flush toilet (the kind you see in public restrooms with no tank)...and library in the bathroom...can you tell I've given this a bit of thought :-D

I think that the spread out move is a lot harder on everyone involved. When Emily and I moved into our first place together we had a two week overlap, and lord knows we used every day of that two weeks, and that was just too damn long. We languished in a sea of cardboard boxes, unable to make a big push to unpack everything. When we moved again, we only had the weekend, so on friday the truck was loaded, saturday morning it was unloaded (and loaded again and unloaded again...) and on Sunday we were all moved in. It did take a while to get everything unpacked, but it was worth it to not have to straddle two places and to think about getting "just one more carload after work today".

Re carbombs: as AmLitt said, the correct Car Bomb is a 1/2 pint of guinness into which you drop a shot of 1/2 Baileys 1/2 Jameson and chug. If made correctly, it should taste like Chocolate Milk YUM!

And yes, if you let it sit, the baileys and jameson certainly will curdle, which is why the delicious concoction is a Drop Shot. Oh, and you use the 1/2 pint of guinness a- so you chug it in one go, and b- so it doesn't splash stout all over your shirt!

I really really want to try these milkshakes, but we don't have a blender! Damn! This one is definitely logged, though.

I own one, use it, collect vinyl. But then, I am a music freak! Mine isn't anything special, but it's definitely serviceable. I actually bought it at a yard sale for 50 cents and then spent about 60 bucks getting it up and running (there's a great Turntable Service place in Columbus, OH called "Needle in a Haystack"). I am ALWAYS on the hunt for great record stores and special vinyl. Emily and I have a pretty decent collection together that totally reflects the breadth of our tastes from the classic must-haves (Frampton Comes Alive, anyone?) to the new classics (The Tain and In the Aeroplane Over The Sea are two of my faves) to obscure relics (Two recent acquisitions I'm REALLY proud of, Zager and Evans, "2525" and Scott Walker 1) to new releases (Spoon's Ga Ga Ga ga Ga and Radiohead's Discbox). We love our vinyl collection and we love listening to records. It really does sound better than anything, even when it's being piped through our crummy stereo.

And Burnstoemerge- you shouldn't ask a music lover to give up their music, even if he never listens to it. Who knows, it could be valuable some day. Unless you're desperate for the space, you should just leave him be!

This is the method that all the grill cooks used at the restaurant I used to work at. And you're absolutely right, phauxtoe, burgers are the only thing you should even think about ordering well, and I would recommend med-well at that.

One other tidbit- if you ever order a steak at a restaurant Well Done, know that it will be a crummy cut it will taste like shoeleather. Order med-rare or medium if you absolutely must. And never. EVER EVER order a filet mignon anything past med-rare. In fact, I had folks TRY to order a filet well-done and when it came out looking like a charcoal briquet, they were surprised that their 30 dollar hunk of meat tasted terrible.
