I love this room. It's beautiful, and as a room intended to be kid AND adult friendly, I do think the goal was achieved. This isn't the only room in the house, there could very well be a playroom somewhere else where all the messy things happen. And there's tons of storage under those shelves. My bet is that the majority of toys are kept there, and they were put away for the sake of the pictures. True, there's no coffee table, but that doesn't necessarily mean there's no snacking allowed. Maybe they have TV tables they bring in when they're actually using the room? The low pile rug is probably really easy to clean if spills happen, plus really easy to vacuum. This is a room that adults can enjoy because it has style, but that kids can feel comfortable in because it's a fun and happy style. It's a balance I think has been beautifully achieved!

I'm always so amazed at how people can come up with such creative ideas for repurposing old items. I would never have thought of this in a million years!

When we got our bulldog puppy we were very good about keeping him in a kennel in our room at night. That progressed to sleeping with us some nights, and sleeping in the kennel some nights. When he ripped the kennel zipper (his sleep kennel was a soft shell kennel) one night by stretching out with his paws to far, the plan was to let him sleep with us until we replaced it. Once we replaced it we never actually made him sleep in it. Now he's there every night, and I love it. I don't think I could sleep well without him, although I don't exactly sleep well with him when he's snoring and hogging the bed/covers. But he loves to sleep under the covers some of the time, with his face burrowed into my armpit (I know, he's weird), and cuddling with him is the best. Plus when he's actually at the foot of the bed and not in the way it feels like a special treat to be able to cuddle with my husband instead.

The cats on the other hand...They're allowed on the bed but they're annoying and they usually only come by to try to wake me up if they want something. I'd love to kick them out, but the scratching at the door if we didn't let them in would probably be worse than having them there.

I won't buy something because it's trendy, I buy it because I like it. If it becomes mainstream and suddenly it's everywhere you look...oh well.

I think the first time I saw a "keep calm and carry on" poster was on Etsy. I loved it, but didn't buy it right away. Then I saw them pop up on AT in many house tours, and I read the snarky comments about it being old and tired and blah blah blah. It stopped me from buying the poster off Etsy for almost a year, until finally I realized how stupid it was for me to not have something in my house that I had loved, and still love. I bought the poster and it's hanging in my bedroom, right where it belongs. And I hardly ever come to AT anymore, because the one thing I am really tired of is the snobbery and righteousness of so many people who post here.

I also have a chevron pillow and stuffed owl on my couch. I'm planning on painting either a trellis or chevron design on my closet doors this weekend. I love furniture from Ikea. Most of the walls in my house are some shade of grey. I don't care that any of this is trendy, because my house is becoming more and more perfectly me with every change I make. :)

I was not expecting that! I didn't think there was anything that could make that nightstand look cool, but as soon as I saw the "after" I was delighted! I also agree about changing the hardware, but otherwise it's awesome.

I love Sarah and Tommy...I met Tommy a few years ago when he was here in Winnipeg for the Kitchen and Bath show. Sarah came last year, but unfortunately I didn't go...I just hope that she's not snobby as some people have said, because I don't want to ruin my illusion of her! If I ever win the lottery, I'll definitely be calling her to come and decorate part of my house! I love all her work...Even with the rooms that aren't my taste, I can still see how great they are!

It's so well done, and very cool! I'd love to do something like this with my house...Maybe one day when I'm in a house I know I won't be selling...and if my husband would ever let me, haha.

I think it's cool! But I like the ottoman idea from the previous poster rather than a stool...It definitely doesn't look all that comfortable and I'm sure the covers would rip.
I might give it a try, as an ottoman!

I say paint!
If I'm picking up a used piece of furniture for $50 or less, I'm picking it up with painting it in mind.
I never look for antiques, just old furniture that I can make my own and painting is basically the only way I know how.
