You might laugh, but this 3/4 size Janome (that just happens to have Hello Kitty plastered all over it) is quite the impressive machine. http://www.target.com/p/hello-kitty-sewing-machine-green-11706/-/A-10094055?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C10094055&CPNG=Appliances&kpid=10094055&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=10094055

It blows through layer upon layer (up to 6!) of denim, does buttonholes... zippers... even piping. I'm a huge fan - I picked mine up on craigslist for $40 and have absolutely no regrets. It even travels easily! If you want a no-frills machine, this one is awesome! I should mention that I did NOT buy it because of the color or hello kitty, it was for its performance!

Yay! you must feel so much better! This past December (right before a big move) I donated around 8 FULL AND TOWERING shopping carts to my local Salvation Army - it felt SOOO good! Now everything I own I love, has a purpose, I love to look at it, or both. Best. Feeling. Ever. My outbox is my hallway room... I can't wait to get rid of all of the things in there (come on Craigslist buyers...) too! At the end of the Cure they all get hauled off to the SPCA Thrift Store in town, I sure hope they're ready!

I've been trying to blog the January Cure, but despite the fact that I'm participating I've only managed to blog on the weekends. This weekend was SO productive! Still working on the files (but I did get them unpacked... so that's a huge start!).

Real-Life Stories from The January Cure

We are tackling the guest room - so we can actually have guests! It's currently full of craft supplies, office stuff, a guest bed... luggage and unpacked boxes of stuff I need to take to work/ship to another employer out of state. It all sounds monumental, but about 20 minutes each evening should be enough to get it done in a couple of weeks! Blogging about it here: http://honeywithoutflowers.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-january-cure-challenge-post-1.html Where you can see a mini-makeover of a corner.

These are awesome!!! I have a new love for cast iron patterns - http://honeywithoutflowers.blogspot.com/2012/11/cast-iron-patterns-soule.html - I felt really stupid not realizing how much artisanship was involved in making the patterns for cast iron. So awesome! Now I want another cast iron skillet...

I just tried making biscuits for the first time using the Food Network recipe - but they were really good! I would love to try a more savory blend as well! Mine turned out good, though, and were definitely a crowd pleaser! http://honeywithoutflowers.blogspot.com/2012/11/get-up-and-make-this-southern-breakfast.html

I just saw these in Alabama http://elmdesign.craftlaunch.com/ - the candles smelled really good too. I love all of the gilded stuff that's popular now!! Thanks for the roundup... and that gold coin bank reminds me of Looper.

I have two of these beautiful steamer trunks. I have always used them in my living room for DVD/media storage on the right in the drawers and then on the left I placed a platform behind the removable suitcase that was the same height and put my DVD player on it and ran the wires out the bottom and behind out of sight. Yours actually appears to be in great condition! I would NOT listen to any of the posters that suggest gutting it or modifying it in any way... every time someone over the age of 40 sees my trunks they offer to buy them from me. I know they smell like "old", but if you have them in a room where you aren't smelling them all the time it's worth it!

RAINBOW POTLUCK!

My favorite potluck that I hosted was a "rainbow potluck" where I invited a good sized group of people (about 20 in all) and each person was assigned a color by the first letter of their first name.

A-E Red
F-I Orange
J-M Yellow
N-Q Green
R-U Blue
V-Z Purple

It was a lot of fun, and people who didn't have a first name starting with V, W, X, Y or Z even opted for purple for the challenge. It was a lot of fun and people enjoyed the challenge a lot! They were also encouraged to bring a drink with the color on the label or color of the drink. A well balanced meal is multi-colored as well! Since I was the host I made something with all colors - a totally rockin' salad... next time I'll opt for a salad and that really neat rainbow cake that I keep seeing posted on here.
