i agree, you can't go wrong with a 9". i have a couple 8" pans, too, but i rarely ever use them... and for most cake recipes, you won't ever need anything super deep. stick to the basics!

I fell in love with homemade pickled cucumbers when I started making bento boxes for lunch - they're super healthy and can last a while in the fridge. This recipe was a great starting point for me from La Fuji Mama: http://www.lafujimama.com/2010/03/kyuri-asa-zuke-japanese-lightly-pickled-cucumbers/ I probably added a bunch more ingredients just based on whatever I had lying around - you can't really get it wrong!!

For me, there's a big difference in (perceived) satiety between a broth-y soup and one that's been puréed. something about the texture just makes it seem more... meal-like.

a couple years ago i got loads of this stuff in my CSA box every week and had to get creative - but my favorite application was definitely a simple salad. julienned fennel, radishes, mizuna, whatever other greens and herbs you have on hand, dressed with a dijon mustard and apple cider vinaigrette. thinking about it almost makes me want to track some more mizuna down for tonight!

Indeed it sounds like a perfect day! Kudos for going for the delivery pizza. You gotta do what you gotta do. It's funny though, for all the emphasis placed on dinner and dessert, our favorite meal of the day is definitely breakfast (or brunch - particularly when we have time to bake something from scratch). Nothing beats getting your day started feeling loved :)

I second manjar's suggestion to start with room temperature eggs - I used to cook brunch for a crowd of hungry students every Sunday, and I'd always take all the eggs out of the fridge when I started prep ~45 min beforehand. The heat of the kitchen (thanks, industrial grill!) meant that the eggs were perfect by the time I started cooking - easy fried eggs with no basting/steaming required!

@TravelingRae - That sounds amazing! What a great idea. I, too, buy in bulk, since it's about 80% cheaper to do so. I will definitely try a different marinade for different bags next time.
I always worry, though, about starting with frozen BSCBs - my thawing trick (adapted from Alton Brown) is to fill my sink with cold water and submerge the frozen bagged BSCBs with various heavy cans/mugs. They're completely thawed (but still refrigerator cold) in less than an hour!
