The Veterans and the Boomers, I venture, had a higher % of stay-at-home wives...which is a big pool of potential gardeners. It makes sense that Gen X'ers, with our higher percentage of working women, would have fewer garden hobbyists.

I like an exercise ball as much as the next gal, but if that had been my only seating option during late-night nursing or soothing sessions, I'd have zonked out and fallen off of it (holding the baby) more times than I can count! Nursery seating doesn't have to rock or glide necessarily, but it should be something you can sit in securely.

That little black chair with all the legs -- is that a ROCKER? Love it. Dying with curiosity over whether it would rock comfortably, or feel like driving over cobblestones. : )

I'm generally pretty clutter-tolerant, but this space really tires my eyes out. I think the black-and-white palette, without some broad areas of color to ground it visually, actually makes it more cluttered to me. The book edges, the shelf edges, the squares of the quilt, the surface with the photos . . . it's all a lot of visual detail. It reminds me of how detailed line art can be visually overwhelming to the eye sometimes, when there isn't enough difference in line weight to help you focus in on the most important things . . . I've gotten sketches from illustrators that had this problem, but when they went to color art, and larger areas were consolidated with color, all the detail was put into context, and worked as an asset. For this space, Turning the books around so the spines provided a more solid block, OR having a quilt with a solid background, might be enough to make me enjoy the other details.

You could use bright red pushpins (oversized) for a cherry tree! What about pale pink for cherry blossoms? : )
