I held onto very little from my last relationship. I even sold most of the furniture from my last place when I moved in with my current boyfriend. I tend to purge and move on. That said, I don't think throwing stuff away is the best way to go. Example - an old flame had carved me a lovely wooden heart some time ago, and when we broke up I didn't feel right keeping it OR giving it away. It ended up in a box on his front porch (with a few other things) so he could keep it for a portfolio. I also kept a letter that another ex gave me, not because it reminded me of the relationship, but because it had some very encouraging words and sentiment. Oddly enough, everything else from the same guy got burned, so I guess I can't say that I have any hard and fast rules about ex-stuff anyway. Paint a dropcloth with a bold graphic pattern and hang it behind the rack. Maybe you can even put grommets in the cloth and hang lightweight bike accessories with S hooks from it, or sew some pockets in. Grommets are pretty easy so even if you're not crafty it's no problem. That's generally how it is in my family (for large gatherings at least). The women cook, the men set up the tables/chairs and then clear away the dishes and put everything back. Apartment Therapy & The Duke Homes on the Road |

I moved last summer directly across the street from my old building. The BF and I were shacking up so we needed more space. We love our new apartment but that was probably the WORST move of my life. Right across the street! Easy move! It'll take no time! LIES! We basically moved one laundry basket full of crap and minivan load at at a time. But I love my new place and I love my boyfriend so it was worth it. Making a \"Small\" Move: Is It Worth It? |

I just redid my bedroom curtains with dropcloths. It would be really easy to dip dye or paint them though too. The vertical edges are selvage so I didn't even have to hem that part. Woohoo! 5 Sources for Affordable Patterned Curtains |

My living and dining room are more on the minimal side. But that's absolutely out the door in the bedroom, sunroom, and kitchen. That's kind of a default in the bedroom (it's tiny), but I like a lot of crap on the walls in my kitchen. :) Minimal vs. Cozy: Which is More \"You\"? |
