I put it in my grilled cheese sandwiches, often with a bit of fresh rosemary and an aged cheddar. Delish!

Unfortunately this is a phenomenon I am all too familiar with... My worst "hangry" episodes all involve me passed out on the floor due to low blood sugar, mostly when I was a teenager because I hadn't yet learned to recognize the signs. Now I carry food with me pretty much everywhere to avoid that drama, but I still have to warn my boyfriend when I'm getting hangry so he knows how urgent it is that I eat - otherwise I turn into a raging *itch!

Why not paint or tint the inside of some canning jars and keep empty ones up there? You can find lots of tutorials online for doing both online - it's easy and can be pretty if you choose the right colours.

I hear Tina Fey's Bossypants is great in audiobook format - I plan to listen to it this weekend on a camping road trip!

I make a smoothie every morning, enough for two servings - one serving goes into a glass to drink with breakfast, the rest goes into a Mason jar to bring with me to work. It's the perfect mid-afternoon pick me up!

I am with the others - I LOVE my garlic peeler.

I don't have a spoon rest, but it's something I've missed ever since I left home when I was a teenager and I will probably get one eventually.

I've never thought about buying an onion chopper until reading these comments - I can't make it through an onion without crying and hate the smell on my hands so much I sometimes wear rubber gloves. Seems like it might be the perfect solution for me...

I've been vegetarian for 17 years and wheat free for almost 10, which means that by necessity most of my meals are low carb.

It's not easy, but it's definitely doable (and enjoyable once you get the hang of it!) - try things like spaghetti squash with pasta sauce (instead of spaghetti), stir fries and curries served on steamed greens instead of rice.

Mmm I'm hungry just thinking about it.

I'm from Western Canada and I recall having a few cakes with coins baked into them as well - we called them "money cakes." Generally there was one loonie and the rest was smaller change. Loved them as a kid!

My family is mostly of Eastern European descent, so doubtful that there is an English connection there. But I'm fourth/fifth generation Canadian, so who knows what we picked up from where along the way...

@ Emmi - my cats are largely indoors. Our patio is in a location where they cannot actually access any ground. One of my kitties would gladly stay indoors all the time, but the other is a prowler. I couldn't keep him inside if I tried, especially in the summer when the apartment is like a sauna with the doors closed.

As for cat grass - I do grow it. I am just trying to find other plants that they naturally won't want to eat so I can try to grow something other than wheat grass and catnip (which they chew down to nubs).

@ kimruca: Succulents is a good idea, that's the way I was leaning already. And I will try the pebble trick! They like to use my larger planters as a litter box (ew).

It used to be fresh flowers...

...until I adopted my two kitties who have quite the taste for flowers. One of whom can jump to every surface in the house. Now it's the kitties.

Or my creative attempts to bring flower-like items into the house (most recently, for easter, I made some large fake flowers out of yellow paper napkins and hung them from the ceiling over the table for a chandelier effect).

How To Make Creamy Ice Cream with Just One Ingredient!

I once made homemade ice cream with avocado and lime from. It was very labour intensive, but reading this I can't help but think that some avocado and lime juice would be a delicious addition - and the avocado really helps keep things creamy.

I will have to try it soon! Let's see if my little inversion blender is up to the task...

That said, if they work as advertised and pose no safety hazards... kinda cool!

I tried this over the weekend, and while it did make for a lovely crunchy exterior, I missed the salty flavour of the butter. It may be because I used light cheese (it's less salty and oily than regular), but I think I am going to stick to butter on the outside and mayo on the inside!

Hm, I usually make mine with butter on the outside and a pesto mayo on this inside... will have to try this! Leaves more usable bread surface on the inside to slather with pesto and apple onion chutney... Yum!
