Has anyone tried this? I am about six weeks in, and mine did not make a "mother," as the recipe said it would.

I mostly drink wines in the $8-13 range, occasionally going up or down. But I drink mostly reds, and think that for the most part, anything cheaper than that tastes pretty sharp.

Another vote for Evernote! I love having the app on my phone so I can look up a recipe at the grocery store or snap a photo of a recipe from a magazine and find it later. It's the best method I've found.

I am also a backpacker and have recently started using our dehydrator to dehydrate whole meals. You can find several books on the topic, but stews and gooey (but low-fat/ low-grease) casseroles and pasta work the best. It's light to carry and in camp you just add water and boil until tender.
I also second the votes for jerky and fruit leathers (we like spiced peach and mixed berry).

Lovely. This line especially, for me:

gosh some of you people are harsh! just because you love someone doesn't mean you love ALL of their stuff. and she's obviously willing to display it, since she's just asking for help.
i like the idea of putting on a wall with other mixed art... or in the bathroom. good luck!

@Apron Strings... Good idea & could you tell me more about how you make your lemon balm syrup... I have tons of it in my garden. I'm thinking just steep like tea and then add sugar to make a syrup?

I a few blocks from a Jeni's (Brambleberry is my favorite too @dani edmonson! ) and bought the book. I made the lemon yogurt flavor with blueberry, as it is one of my favs in her store. Very good! Can't wait to try to the others.

@rebeccam, It invades our plant beds, gets tangled up in our mulch, etc. I battle it.
However, I do leave the pretty strawberry-like weeds though that grow in the back corner of our yard as wild ground cover. Everything has its place, but ground ivy is pretty invasive.

I made this yesterday for 5 other people plus myself. It was totally amazing and we devoured it!

I made it all in one day, it took roughly 3.5- 4 hours. I modified the recipe a little by putting the whole thing together and kneading in my stand mixer. I also used active dry yeast, so I heated the milk, butter, and water in the microwave until warm and then proofed the yeast for 10 mins before adding that to the mixer bowl with the dry ingredients.

It came out so well!

Earlier I baked the cake part of a caramel layer cake for a wedding shower tomorrow. I'll make the frosting and assemble in the morning. Tonight we're having brown sugar soy grilled salmon and a millet or quinoa (whichever I have more of in my pantry) salad with lemon, chives, feta, and snap peas. I also picked up some berries and just pulled some shortcakes out of the oven for dessert.
