Nice, light and airy space, and natually family-friendly to boot.

Thanks for sharing.

Come to think of it, that desk seems to be simply quite well designed for both long reach (external keyboard) and short reach (laptop) usage. And the little semi-hidden printer shelf is a nice touch. I like it more for those reasons than anything else. Just my 2 cents.

How fitting - our daughter has this bed, which I continue to marvel at for its sturdiness to cost ratio. Cute upgrade. We stuck with the minimalist wood finish for now. She also likes to hang things on the headboard like the dreamcatcher she made the other day.

Our kids are two and a half and five. They follow us around the house and play wherever we are, so no organised play room would be big enough. And I fully agree with darlingclementine about these luxury, roomy spaces.

Our former Berlin apartments looked equally uncluttered before we had kids! - LOL. Seriously though, you must have more stuff than that. As many German apartments don't have a pantry cupboard (Hauswirtschaftsraum) and many cellars (Keller) are damp, I'm wondering out loud what you did with all the spare goodies you didn't wish to display. Other than that: fabulous job!

Schlagbohrmaschine is an impact/hammer drill. And that brings back memories of needing one to get through those sturdy German stone walls.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see people happy doing what they feel they should be doing.
Those pictures were pretty nice, too.

If you're happy with it, then that's the main thing. Admittedly though, I'm with the prefer-the-before group. It was just so calm and spacious. For me personally, I might have gone with bookshelves on one wall only as an accent wall of sorts. Maybe white Billy shelves against a black wall. Regarding the TV, you have my full sympathy. Our 20" TV is intrusive as it is. I wouldn't know where to put a big flat-screen thingy in our place.

You could always move up the top shelf by say half and then raise up the clothes bar so that an extra space is opened up under the hanging clothes. It's probably also a matter of personal taste though.

The amount-of-work-to-end-result-ratio on this amazes me. A simple change of perspective and voilá! When I get home from work I'm going to turn half my stuff on its head to see if it could be used better for something else. Thanks for sharing!

That kitchen is much smaller than the IKEA one. We have slanted ceilings in the kids' room in our German apartment and this Janod kitchen fits perfectly, and it has character.

Wow, that looks absolutely huge for Berlin. How many square meters? No mention in the text.

I live in Germany in a three-floor building with 6 tenants. We know them all. Our last names are on signs on the doorbell, so there's no being anonymous here anyway. When I still lived in Canada I had no real clue who my neighbours were. It took me a long time to get used to warming up to my neighbours here, but now I like it so much that I'd miss that community feeling if I didn't have it. Great post btw.

Don't mean to hijack this, but I get the exact same 'not available in your region' messages when trying to livestream videos on the web from the likes of NBC and Sony. I live in Germany.
Methinks there's money and licensing disputes involved.

I'm kind of stunned by the thought that the couple wouldn't have anticipated how those photos might come across to viewers on this site.

I guess that's why I'm sort of feeling for them.

My Tivoli Audio One radio is the most satisfying piece of music tech I have personally ever used. I plug my iPod into the back and it seems the best of modern and retro in one space-saving package.

I think the name 'Nachschub' is actually a play on words as another German word 'Schublade' means 'drawer'. At any rate, that's a nice shop window which made me miss Berlin where I used to live a few years ago - just north of Kreuzberg. Great city!
