Well, my kids would think this was awesome. And so would their friends. I find the majority of the commenters on this post to be so beyond obnoxious. Like a bunch of jerky cool kids from some 80's John Hughes movie. "Eeew, a hobbit hole? Just... no." I can't decide if it's mostly nervous nellies who think that nothing is safe or the condescending wanna be cool kids who bother me more. You really ruin the site, readers. There are plenty of things here I love, and plenty that just aren't my cup of tea. And I typically refrain from being a jerk about the ones that aren't my taste. Also, have you guys ever met any children? They wouldn't be weirded out by the hobbit hole's origins as a doghouse! If anything, they would think that was even cooler.

I love this! I have a sweet old yellow desk and that same pink chair (thanks IKEA) and I think I need to copy this pronto. Beautiful!

Great idea, and also great suggestion by blackbeanbelly to modify a store bought one. I have had the unfortunate experience of having to bring in the big guns to finally bust a stubborn pinata and it was much less magical than if the kids had been able to do it themselves.

I would skip the highchair. We had one with our first, and it just took up floor space with its huge footprint. Next 2 kids used a booster (the fisher-price healthy whatever that thing is called with the tray) or a Phil and Ted's Me too seat hooked up to the table. So much better. They preferred being right in on the action at the table, not relegated to the further away high chair. Maybe if I'd had a better high chair I might have felt better about it, but mostly it was just a beast to keep clean and I'm glad I sold it. I never missed it!

I love this list! A room with each of these things in it sounds cozy and like a place that kids would love. Maybe I should do it for my room too.

Do you think it would be possible to include links to each of the original posts shown in the pictures? I want to see the details about each of these! Fingers crossed...thanks! (presumptuous thanking always makes your requests come true, right?)

Yep, we use these for everything too. I particularly like the one that hangs on the back of the door in our laundry room, which is the door from which we typically leave the house. Right now that one holds our mittens, scarves and hats. At the end of the season that gets rolled up and boxed, and another one comes out to store sunglasses, sunscreen, chapsticks, bug spray, flip flops, squirt guns... you know. Summer stuff that needs to be by the door. And we've used one as a medicine cabinet in our linen closet too. Very very handy.

We have this adorable chair (in pink) and my kids really don't seem to mind that it's not ergonomic or cushioned in any way. My kids are 9, 6, and 3 years old and they love it. They love that it swivels, they love that it is height adjustable, and they love to pull it up to their desks and draw forever. It's a pretty great deal, too.

Hey! Another Adrienne. And I second her opinion. I do not like. It seems like each of the individual products would be kind of substandard. Like that infant seat. I think a bouncy seat winds up almost being a must for many babies. A seat that doesn't bounce doesn't seem so appealing to me. And I concur, the toddler chair doesn't look so great/comfortable. I'd pass on it.

I have three kids, and they all wish they were in the same room together. The two oldest have been sharing since the third was born, and even though they are not the same gender they really prefer it. I wish we could fit them all in one! This is a really cute way to do it.

Wow, I didn't realize how many AT readers were such total jerks! If you don't like a product or can't use it, fine. But many of you sound so insulting. And "Old news"? Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that everyone has heard of everything already. Why bother writing at all? It's all been written before apparently. I don't own one of these, I don't have a super strong opinion on it (though I have watched outdoor movies before and thought it was tons of fun). But lighten up and grow up, people! And no, I don't think it's tacit endorsement to post about something.

The Red Balloons is a favorite of mine but semi-traumatized my super sensitive little guy when we watched it. The horror of those mean boys trying to pop it! He's a few years older now, we should try it again. His sisters are much less sensitive, ha! Our kids usually love old live action Disney movies from my childhood (and they were oldies at the time) like Herbie and Blackbeard's Ghost and they roared at the Absentminded Professor (definitely not the awful remake "Flubber"), Dr. Doolittle (which is such a weird show). I second (third) Mary Poppins, and also they loved the Sound of Music. National Velvet was also a hit. We've been doing movie night for a few years now and it is tons of fun.

My brother has one of those that's actually meant to be a drawer organizer, like for silverware or other sundries in the kitchen. It's bamboo, I think, so it looks pretty enough on the wall, and didn't require sifting at the thrift store (nothing against that, I'm just bitter because I never score stuff as cool as what all these people online seem to find. Everyone else apparently has magical thrift stores!)

I had My Friend Mandy growing up. She's a 16" doll with a cute face, and looks more like a little girl, not a baby or an adult fashion doll, and she has brushable/stylable hair. She is poseable, with vinyl limbs and face but a huggable softer cloth body. I recently gave her to my three-year-old daughter who LOVES her. A bonus is that she is machine washable, and has held up beautifully for years. I got a My Friend Jenny doll off of ebay so there would be a doll for little friends to play with too, and they are a hit. Tons of cute vintage clothes for them, too, and easy to find on ebay.

Love this room! You almost had me in tears thinking over the sweetness of so many things handmade by family for your baby. I love all the color, too.

Sigh. There was nothing I wanted more as a child than a roll-top desk. That might make me slightly weird. But I really did cut out pictures from furniture ads and save them, and imagine how I would stock every little drawer and shelf with sundry stationery items. The pens! The little envelopes! I still want one, and it's not even my style anymore. A kid-sized one is my white whale. Lucky you!
