To add another wrinkle to your dilemma, you should know that the age of your crib makes it illegal to resell, even via something like Craigslist, due to the newest U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission rules that went into effect last year. Obviously plenty of folks are still buying and selling, but it's something to be aware of.

I'm happy to have this list but, mostly out of laziness, I wish they had included the specific products (e.g. my beloved Lysol Kitchen/Bath Wipes?) that commonly contain these chemicals. It's easier to remember not to use a particular thing than it is to carry this list to store...

Thanks everybody - these are great comments!

A few thoughts:

I'm okay with the low back (I think) and lack of pillows. One thing I really like about this sofa is the lack of individual cushions, and I have plenty of "toss around" pillows I can use (I like these best because you can switch them out with the seasons, mood, etc.). The option for guest sleeping is a huge plus.

GrayinNYC - I see your point. We're both curl-up types though (I'm a leg tucker) when it comes to sofa sitting, so I think we'd be okay with the depth.
Chickimsoup's comments are concerning. While I like the idea of a cozy, sinky feeling couch, I don't want that sinking to get lower and lower with time...

I can see the similarity to the Ikea sofa, but I've never been overly impressed with those in person. My hope would be that this would be of a quality worth the higher cost. That's the kicker really - how long can I expect this bad boy to last?

I did call CB2 to inquire about a warranty. I'd heard they have one, but could not find any mention of it on their website. The rep I spoke to said they do have a lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects. I asked what I'd do if something broke and she said they'd send out a "furniture medic" to assess the situation. I may be cynical, but can't help wonder how often those medics qualify the piece for replacement.

Also worth noting, if you buy CB2 or Crate & Barrel furniture and move, regardless of length of ownership, any warranty is VOID. Anyone know if that is common practice?

I know I've been a bit long-winded, but it looks like a few other folks have been eyeing this sofa too...

Thanks again!

1. To be able to transport the gorgeous 1890's farmhouse I grew up in out here.

2. Failing number one, that we had a full height second floor - airy with big windows and Deep South elms outside them.

3. That our kitchen weren't so small and irrevocably poorly configured.

I like the idea of these, but for $274 I'd rather buy a new coat (and still put it on the chair).

On second thought, with the white window trim and white appliances, white cabinets might be too much white.

I'm interested to see what other folks think...

Wow. So dark!
From the angle of the pictures you really don't have much actual wall to play with to break up all that dark surface area. That being the case, I think either the counters need to go or you need to paint the cabinets. My vote is easily for a light cabinet color. White is always clean and simple, and allows you to have more fun with the wall colors.

I love all that green outside your windows, but that filtered light is another good reason to lighten up the room (especially in the Portland winter). I also have to add that I am jealous of your counter space!

Congrats on your new home!

For those of you interested in Bob Walker's book mentioned above, Powells has it (albeit curently backordered) for a much better price than Amazon.

Great post AT!! And great job John - Wow!

I love a good chair, kitchen, remodel, etc. post as much as the next person, but giving us ways to keep our furry friends happy AND do so in a remotely (in this case, very) style-friendly way - Fabulous!

We too go through the cheapo flat scratchers in nothing flat. Who knew cats were so drawn to cardboard?
I like the shape of these, and the price is much better than the line Velocity carries:

The Lounge Bed is only 11" wide however - I fear my Rubenesque kids wouldn't feel properly supported...
