Well said Patrick...

I think we tend to create the holiday stress we later love to rant about. Keeping things simple is always the way to go.

I have the same moldings and I hung mine above, almost to the ceiling. It makes the room taller, the windows look larger and is amazing overall.

Try it. You won't be disappointed.

Amen mntwmyn... I used to live in an apartment by myself and never invited anyone over because it wasn't perfect. After living there nearly 2 years, I moved out regretting that I had never made any memories in that space.

I feel that we often focus on what we don't have instead of what we do and therefore define our lives because of such. I personally enjoy having people see the transitions that a home goes through. Each time we have people over, there is something new in the space to notice.

And if you have a large project looming (painting, hanging artwork, assembling furniture, etc) why not invite your friends over and tackle it together?

Well, seeing that Walmart is the devil and these guys are so clearly not, that's the difference (among the recyclable and 100% HDPE factors.) ;)

I've actually seen this in person and might I say.... it's stunning.

One thing the post failed to mention: I had heard that the artist will work with the buyer to customize the piece to feature things that they enjoy.

Something to think about.

Might I suggest:

They are affordable, take up very little space and look really great in multiples. The nice thing is that they display your CD (and DVD as listed) without demanding too much visual attention.

Good luck!

I'm actually glad that they picked Antonio. Both were great designers, but in all honesty, Dan seemed to play things a little too safe. Some of his designs looks too much like model houses.

Antonio is a breath of fresh air in the design world. I like his look, the tattoos and his Italian-guy approach to things.

I agree we'll be seeing more of both guys, but I will definitely tune into Antonio's show. Overall, this season of Design Star felt a little lacking... anyone else agree?

I can't believe this post exists. I JUST had a dream last night about staying in my childhood home with my partner and someone breaking into the basement with a flashlight and a gun. It kept me up for at least an hour afterward.

I always have fears of people breaking in... about a year ago, in a former apartment, the phone kept ringing at 3am... the voice-mails were very basic and creepy, "Call me baaaaaaaaaaaack." It was an unknown number. During the third voice-mail, it hit me; THEY WERE CALLING FROM THE HALLWAY outside of our front door.

Thirty seconds later, there were violent pounds on the front door. Nonstop. We were sooooo scared, especially when we realized there was really no other way out of our 4th story loft. The madness ensued for 30 minutes. I called the NYPD. They hung up on me.

Eventually, we learned that our car had been stolen, then totaled by the carjacker and the whole thing was the another precinct of the NYPD trying to get a hold of us, although in a VERY unprofessional manner. I told an officer, "If I had owned a gun, you'd be dead right now."

The middle of the night presents itself with endless possibilities. A creaking floor can turn into our worst nightmares. A bad dream can paralyze us in fear. As scary as it is, the best solution is to have a plan. Get out. Fight back. Run like hell. Whatever it may be, have it in the back of your mind before you have to use it.

And try not to sleep naked. Embarrassment and fear are NOT a good combo.

Eliminate clutter.... create decorative vignettes... quite the contradiction, no?

I tend to disagree about only buying things on sale. Many times, stock is limited or unavailable by the time a sale starts, leaving you no choice but less desirable options. If you love something, indulge. There are plenty of other ways in life to save money.

I had a pet bunny growing up, which yes, was very cute and cuddly, however, he did chew up everything he could; magazines, shoelaces, corners of wallpaper at the baseboards... which caused my mother a lot of grief.

As with all pets, or children, compromises need to made...

I've seen this feature for awhile now and one thing to remember is that it doesn't account for anything on display in the store. So if it says they have 4 LACK side table in stock, but 4 LACK side tables are being used in the showroom, you are indeed, out of luck.

And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience.

If they show more than a dozen of a particular item, I would feel better about it actually being there.

In IKEA's defense, and a point that has not been touched as of yet, is that the majority of their furniture is shipped and sold flat packed. This is actually very sustainable, as it allows more freight to be included in each shipment as well as easier and more effective transport from the store to the consumer.

I agree that some IKEA pieces are definitely not worth purchasing for the long term, however, I have had pieces that have lasted for years and have never shown major signs of slowing.

Well, I can honestly say that I have never taken anything from the many hotels I've stayed in, except for the toiletries.

Some get used for guests visiting our home. The others get donated to the local homeless shelters. You'd be amazed at what a difference such a small thing makes.
