I still feel the art work is hung too high even for an 8 ft ceiling. I also am not crazy about the pendant lighting. I believe Ikea carries others that would be more substantial. But I love the rug and coffee table choice and feel you are on your way.

I have heard about the basil also, but do not know if it works. A lot of the hole in the wall type of Mexican resturants in Texas use the plastic bags on their patios, so it must work.

I would not put up drapes in this room. It is beautiful the way it is.

You have a great place and for SF looks like a lot of room. Here are some thoughts:
Living room - matching plants on each side of the leather ottoman and a tall plant (ficle leaf ficus?) beside the TV. Move prints over the fireplace to over the sofa. Find something colorful to put over the fireplace. Coffee table needs more on it, perhaps books with colorful covers or even magazines. Move the small prints by TV to bedroom and Obama print to this wall.

Bathroom - paint cabinet white and buy a new top, cheap and easy to put in from home depot. Owner may put it in if you pay for it. Use fluffy white towels and a white shower curtain to hide pink tub.

Dining room - new light fixture for sure, the drum shade is a good idea. I got a very inexpensive one from CB2 here in SF and it changed the entire feel of my dining room. Also, paint that back wall a light accent color. You can always paint it back white when you move in an hour or less. Keep your grandmother's vase. You will want it again some day trust me.

Bedroom - I like the white bedding but a colorful duvet folded up at the foot would be nice. Two small chests as nightstands with colorful lamps. Maybe a plant, and yes I will vote for him, but move the Obama print out of the bedroom.

I moved here 18 months ago from Austin...ditto....Craigslist and you have to be ready to move on it. If there is an "open house" for it, be first in line with all your personal info to fill out an application and a copy of your credit report. And hopefully you do not have an 80 lb Lab or you will be looking a long time for something affordable.

I love it all with one exception! I too am unsure, no actually I am not crazy about the painted headboard. As for the rug in the kitchen, I also have the same look and it adds so much color and warmth.

I have a few questions:

1. What is the color used in the old kitchen, the apple green shade. I too live in SF, and have a similar kitchen (the old one unfortunately), and it is just white with white tile. And as it is a rental all I can really change is the paint.
2. Is that an old bed spring on the wall? I now have to go dumpster diving to find one!
3. Also, the color of the living room walls, a pale blue. Very nice.

Dave, thank you for the explanation of the light fixture in your living room. It sounds like I am not the only one who is in love with it. I too live in SF, and will go by Bottom of the Hill and get a look at the light fixture. Also, print out a picture of yours and see if I can replicate it.

You might consider mass producing them!
