We're about to build a house in Switzerland and we had to present an energy audit even before we start digging earth. The required energy use value has again shrunk from the last revision a couple of years ago. Our heating planner and architect have done well keeping everything within half the required value thanks to geothermal heating, double glazing, compact house form and heat recovery ventilation system. Thank god it's a new build. Simple renovations in old houses would be hell since they'd have to go under audit using new standards. For such a small space going with Bulthaup is rather obscene as it does not do Bulthaup justice and I'd rather go with custom installation if there are quality custom kitchen fabricators in my area. US$20k would be in line with Bulthaup pricing (factoring in importing etc although it would probably be US$20K for the cabinetry and appliances here in Europe). You'd have to experience the quality of their workmanship and materials to understand why they're priced that way. Like most designer kitchen and big kitchen fabricators they have a lot of proprietary stuff going on from materials to hardware. Some may say superfluous but again one needs to experience them to know they're worth the price. Apartment Therapy - Lunchtime Survey: Is This Bulthaup Kitchen Worth $20,000 |

There are two products from Welterwall. The one illustrated here in AT is the C-Wand (C-Wall). The Flagship product itself called Welterwall is a pocket sliding door with a refined mechanism which allows the door to be flush to the wall on both sides when closed (refer to the animation section of their website). Pretty amazing german technology. Depending on pricing I'll probably use it in the house were planning to build in Switzerland since we're planning for pocket doors throughout. These beds are produced by CLEI in Italy. They also have distribution in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. For North America, Manny Machado carries them in Canada or contact CLEI Italy for direct imports to the USA. Apartment Therapy - AT Europe: Paris - Chic Murphy Bed Armoires |

Agree with KatieD but if you're renting then another bet would be a layer of thick sound insulating material under soundproofed laminate which would be easy to install. If you go the carpet route, remember that you still have to install a layer of soundproofing material underneath to make it more effective. I suggest one rug to demarcate each space i.e. one rug for the dining area, and one rug for the living area. A huge rug would cover the floor too much. Perhaps use an open shelving unit to physically divide the two parts. Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: Where Should I Start Decorating? |

Hopefully, those who store wine on top of the fridge drink the wine really fast i.e. within the course of a dinner party. It is not a good idea to store wine this way. Unless of course they're using cheap wine for decor. Apartment Therapy - Blogging Cottage Living... Creative Wine Storage |

US$1500 is a bit steep considering retail price of this in europe is 657 euros. Btw, it comes with a remote to control the fan. The rotation can also be manually changed to summer or winter mode. Propeller Ceiling Fan by Serien Lighting |

I agree with the others that you have to concentrate on the bed to hold things together. Well I don't know the size of your room but would it not be possible to put the dresser from across the foot of the bed? Then add proper night tables in a similar shade of wood but modern design. That way the bed area can be "modern" and the dresser can be the only old piece in the room. Good Questions: Save This Room, Save My Marriage? |

I buy from Manufactum Switzerland. A tad expensive but great quality and service. The different sites offer the same products give or take a few. Manufactum |

The Hervé Gambs flowers are amazingly lifelike, they're not the run-of-the-mill silk flowers, they are in a league of their own. I actually ordered a catalog from them when I was choosing options for our store decorations. They are not cheap alternatives to real blooms since they are quite trés cher but in my opinion worth it. I'd have to import them to Switzerland if I want to use them and the only thing that's preventing me are the minimum orders needed. There is a florist in Switzerland carrying them but I'm not (yet) keen on paying retail. Post from Paris: Hervé Gambs and the Art of the Fausse Fleur |
