It all really depends upon the room, the furnishings and overall setting.

Sometimes, it looks SO MUCH BETTER if you do Not go high and wide... for instance, in my bedroom, going a bit wide and not quite so high was the much more appropriate option. It even felt calmer. I went a bit wider (the windows but up against a corner) - maybe 7 to 10 wider (up to the edge of the wall mounted nightstands) and then split the difference between high and that wierd low example. There is not much space in the room for moving the bed and nightstands, and this was such a more estheically pleasing way to hang the curtains. The bed is fairly low and high wide curtains prevented the use of nightstands as well as throwing the whole room off.

i would Hate to lose books - the real ones with paper and all. They smell good, you fall in love with them, they are handier than anything, you can mark tehm up and take notes. Yeah, I HATE having to read things on-line. Books "must" be in the standard format for me. I could not imagine being a student or reading something w/o being able to mark it up. Do Not like the e-book trend At All, not even fro junk reading. There must be a way to produce responsibly out of recycled materials for those concerned.....

ps - Labels are Not necessarily an indication of style, taste, etc. There are many people who chose a Label (designer) because they are 'told' too, they are followers, not because _they_ have good taste, a sense of design, care about authenticty, or whatever. (I am not saying that choosing a particular designer or label is "bad", or lacks value, just that it doesn't necessarily 'prove' anything worthwhile in the end to feel you have to follow a trend & 'keep up with the Joneses' per se).

Should I Be Ashamed of My Furniture Knockoffs?

You do what you can to make a good and pleasant life for yourself; one that you can AFFORD. And be responsible. THAT is being smart, reasonable, realistic, etc.

I can't deal with reading the comments on this subject, but you don't need to feel guilty about being responsible and having an eye. Its Your life and you owe it to yourself to live the best one possible in the healthiest manner possible, with an eye towards your future well-being - and that includes Financial Health - as well as the psychological & pysiological health that our surroundings can give us when we are in the 'right' place with the 'right' things, in a clean and organized/orderly fashion.

If you look closely, the shelves are mounted using battens. Yes, the BATTENS for the shelves are 'built in', but the shelves are most likely Loose, & laying atop the battens - I have the same thing in my closets and they are eaily removed. Thus, hanging clothes rods in the back of the loset/at the end Will work just fine.

Other ideas:

What about an armoire in your room?

Or one of the ikea pax wardrobe systems?

That pull-out rail some one mentioned is only one of the interior fittings they have - double clothes rails, shelves/drawer units, and shoe racks are just some of the interior fitiings they have available. then you could store shoes or what ever other items in the closet, maybe add more shelves in there....

Ok, see that back area, the one at the end where you have shelves? Remove them & hang a set of double clothing rods. You can move the shelves below and above the rods if there is room. There should be room on top for at least one shelf which you can use for out of season or little used items.

On the side (where the clothes hand now), you could do some shallow shelves - you might have to place your shoe boxes side ways, but maybe not; some may fit under the hanging clothes...

You could also do shelves up high on multiple walls in the closet (down each side, on one side and on the ends, including above the door, etc). Or, maybe put shelves on the window wall, under the window and possibly some on both sides or just one side, above the window, etc. And / or use hooks on the wall for items such as jewelry, accessories, hats, coats, belts, bags, umbrellas, scarves, daily coats, stuff like that.

By moving your hanging clothes to the far end, you will protect them from sun damage; as would storing items on the window wall or above the window (on any of the walls). If you use 2 clothing rods, you will effectively double the hanging space available at the end of the closet. To get even more room at the back of the closet, you may even be able to hang 2 sets of clothing rods depthwise, or use a deep hook (the IKEA Bjarnum hook comes to mind - it is about $5, has 2 prongs vertically, and is about 6" deep). You can hang rarely worn / out of season items behind the main clothes rods - of course, this will depend on the actual depth of the space to the rear of the window.

I might also add some sort of window covering. I used a matchstick blind in a closet area where I needed to cut glare, or you may want to do something more light blocking. You can always hang fabric from clips and cup hooks or a tension rod for inexpensive & space saving options, as they can be set into the recessed area of the window frame (as could the matchstick blinds or levoulor blinds) - all of which can be adjusted, allowing you to have some light and ventilation should you so desire.

Good luck and have fun with re-organizing your closet. It is Not as unhopefull a mess as it might seem.

hm, I suppose though, this 'could' work in my shower. But the 2nd rod was so inexpensive and works well. I use both the shower rods with items hung on hangers or do the sheets and such there - but I still need more space to hang things & hang items using hangers hung from curtain rods / hard valences in LR to take advantage of sun and air - they dry faster there and I like the sun / air combo...

I love these, I have no good place in my apt. for one though -- hall has a nook which is out of the way, but not enough ventallation there & above tub not high enough... So I resorted to the 2nd rod above the tub also. It is easy to reach and push things out of the way if still drying and the shower is needed.

I don't want to burst your bubble or anything, but wanted to let you know (since you wanted to avoid Ikea and choose another source), you have at least 2 Ikea duvets pictured... #s 6 & 9.

I have #9 & I love it, it is very versatile.
