i wish i could have a recessed entry way like a real genkan... but for now, leaving shoes in front of the door without any particular boundary should suffice. i hate it when people get annoyed when they're asked to take their shoes off... i agree, dehumidifiers do put out a lot of heat. my parents had one for a few years while living in sub-tropical monsoon summers of hong kong, because without it, our curtains and rugs would remain soggy. but we had to always run the AC concurrently. i've used the Marc Newson Dish Doctor for 4 years, and just gave it up for the Ikea ORDNING. i really liked the dish doctor, except it was very hard to clean through all the prongs, and it never felt super clean because water kept pooling in the draining holes... i like stainless steel after my conversion, it drains better and is easier to keep clean.
