Isn't prison supposed to be ugly and unpleasant precisely so people don't want to go back?

Looks very pretty but where's all the food?! My shelves would be twice that full...looks like they only have one spice ;-)

I am going to Morocco in March and want to know how does one get a large rug home?! Do you ship it? Carry it on the plane? (I'm too old to carry stuff anymore!) How do you know if a shop is reliable enough to actually ship it to you after you leave, especially if as someone mentioned it is better to pay in cash?

Great job...agree with the comments about the bookshelves to left of fireplace (built-in shelves would be so much better) but sounds like you are going to update when you get the funds. I am not a fan of TV over fireplace, ever, but I guess if that is the only option...On the other hand I love your new island. Great for eating, drinking, working at home, etc. And the rest of the kitchen is wonderful. Very well thought out.

Love meganross1's idea of a bar space! Perfect use of the space as it is off in the corner and I think a TV would look weird there if the room is really long (unless you have a stadium-sized TV). You could put a small frig in there to hold fresh stuff (cream, lemons & limes), even a wine frig if you wanted one. Countertop above the frig/cabinet space. Lots of possibilities!

modern_love's comment *really* makes no sense, because once Sarah moves out the landlord could potentially raise the rent to whatever market rates are, thus making it still unaffordable for that family. The rent is only controlled when one person keeps the place long-term. Everyone makes their own choices and has to take the consequences...if the person with a family would prefer to have a big living space, maybe they should move to a more affordable city. Or not have had kids. Whatever...

Ugh, yes paperwork everywhere, making my office an obstacle-filled hazard, especially after dark. Am in the midst of reno'g my house so books and other items are also piled all over...it's depressing as I am usually quite organized and being this scattered is actually demotivating.
But at least I have keyless entry locks so I never lock myself out ;-)

Love the original casement windows, the magazine cabinet, the built-in cabinet in the living room...the whole place has a great feel. Although I too never get why people put a bed in front of the window...doesn't it make it hard to open the window? Pull down the blinds? Other than that I love the house.

Cisco brothers Raggady couch with denim slipcovers, bought in 1999, used almost every day & it's still in fabulous condition. Cushions are down-wrapped and have maintained shape extremely well. Covers get washed a couple times a year. Had 2 cats for the first 10 years or so. The couch is long enough (8 feet) and comfortable enough for even my large male friends to sleep on. Highly recommended. I will definitely buy another if this one ever croaks.

@ vix vax...me too! I have been working on my house for almost 5 years and am on the last room (office) but the sheer number of possibilities has me paralyzed...thanks for the article, am hoping it will give me a push to get the last things ordered that I need to put it all together. Someplace really quiet, where the neighbors can't overhear conversations in the back yard and no one can keep me up when I need to sleep. I haven't ever found an apartment like that so have always lived in a house. When my hearing goes I will probably be fine living in an apartment!

BTDT...will never live in a house again without a keyless entry. The price on some models has come down to under $100, you can remove them when you move out, they hold 20 or more 4-digit codes so you can give one to the neighbors/your mom/boyfriend etc. Very easy to install and change codes so you never have to worry about getting a key back from someone...just delete their code. You can leave for minute or days and never worry about having to take your keys or how to get back in. And you only need it on one door.

Same here, @valliegirldc...change that empty frame out for something that doesn't make anyone think it was removed from an old toilet ;-)
Otherwise, great job! No objection to someone hiding a deficit that they don't want to fix at the moment.
