Watch out for oregano, it's a member of the mint family. It will take over your garden spot if left to it's own devices. Chives also spread a lot as well and will migrate to more locations.

I always plant basil, but when summer comes the basil from the farmers' market is always so much better looking then mine and so cheap that I wind up buying a bunch every week.

Here are a couple of things to try: Use a canned tomato without the calcium chloride. Calcium Chloride is added to tomatoes to keep them from breaking down in the can, problem is that keeps them from breaking down as well in your pan as well. It is not just in diced tomatoes. Most US canned whole peeled tomatoes also have it as well. Even an organic favorite like Muir Glen. You'll probably need to look for an imported brand, Cento is a fairly available one.

You can also simmer longer. Using crushed tomatoes may be an option, but I find that it brings a different texture and taste to most recipes.

Instant oats are just oats that are rolled a bit thinner and chopped up a bit more.

they should be fine in any oatmeal recipe, cookies cakes, etc. Just be aware that the instant packages have some salt added in that is not added to the regular oats. So you may want to adjust down or eliminate any salt the recipe calls for.

AIdelK - the wire shelving is similar to the ones you'd get at Target, but these are the commercial versions. They are very heavy duty. Kitchen stuff weighs a lot. Mine are Metro Shelving, but there are other brands as well. I was able to incorporate a wider piece of trim at the base on the wall. It makes sort of a mini shelf for the back two legs to sit on. They are held in place by a couple of pipe straps like you'd use on pipes or electrical conduit. The front legs have about a six foot piece of threaded rod on the inside that goes through the ceiling and is attached to a support beam in the attic.

The toolbox is just a normal tool chest like in a garage, mine is from Sears. I use the top drawer for spices.

The table is a Boos Block maple end grain butcher block sitting on some stainless legs from a prep table. I think they sell something similar.

There are many, many choices, but in reality you must start with Marcella Hazan's Classics of Italian Cooking.

She covers everything from setting up your kitchen to which pasta to serve with which sauce. She covers all the bases of an Italian meal and guides you through technique and gives reasons for the techniques. Antipasto, pasta, rice, beef, pork, chicken, game, fish, side dishes, deserts, you name it it's covered.

Her recipes are written so that even novice cooks can feel comfortable.

I mean no disrespect, but I strongly urge you to re-think this new layout.

The new design just doesn't feel very functional to me from a real world cooking point of view. I cook a lot and have a small kitchen so I'm not just saying this as someone who rarely uses a kitchen. The workflow just doesn't seem right.

Sometimes the services of a professional kitchen designer can help give you some perspective on ideas you might not see. You should/might be able to find someone for a simple consult without project management or detailed plans. This is an expensive project. You are rerouting electrical, plumbing and apparently reconfiguring structural details. The added cost of some professional planning in the beginning may save you a ton in the long run.

On the island front, you might want to consider a worktable on casters. You could roll it toward the windows for more space or closer to the work area.

Lots of possibilities.

You could have it function asa gallery space. Art on both sides.

Or tall bookcases on the side with the pipe, covering the whole wall.

You could fit a desk in there as well.

Maybe it's just me but the words "grown up" and mandatory party shots as you come in the door don't seem to go together.

Can You Suggest Some Party Shots for Grown Up Tastes? Good Questions

Tee-bone

I'd suggest just cutting this recipe in half. Use a 14.5 ounce can of tomatoes instead of the big one. Keep the oil for browning about the same. Start it in a Dutch oven if you have one. I'd drop the oven temp to around 275-300 instead of 325.

Eat what you want and then either freeze the other half or keep in the fridge and use the meat in another dish within a couple of days. It would be good as a pasta sauce, sandwiches or even tacos.

Do Not substitute a "nicer" cut of beef, a chuck roast is the perfect cut for this dish. It has plenty of marbling and fat to give it flavor and by brasing it low and slow you are allowing all the connective tissue to dissolve into the meat. since you are shredding the beef when you are finished cooking it you can remove anything that doesn't dissolve. Other cuts like top round or sirloin won't give as good of results with this cooking method.

Bed against the wall in front of the closet, leave a space to open the doors. Table near the fridge wall where you have the sofa in the plan. Then shove everything else in your proposed plan to the sliding door wall.

so you end up with the sofa in the corner where the bed is and the tv on the opposite wall.

whatever you decide to do, live with it for a while before doing anything that's hard to reverse.

You'll need to go to a real paint store and ask their advice if you want to DIY this. Skip the big box stores.

The local folks will know your area and the elements and the protocols to follow.

You are looking for a store that specializes in paint, so Sherwin Williams, MAB, Benjamin Moore. It looks like Hirschfields is the BM dealer in your area.

As mentioned you'll need to really get the stuff clean and then probably use an oil based, stain blocking primer, folllowed by your top coat.

The pros will make suggestions on paint and number of coats etc.
