Yes, it's your choice to do what you wish to your house. But it affects the streetscape and the neighbourhood. I just spent thousands removing layers of white paint from a beautiful historic brick house in Toronto. Many decades ago it became trendy to paint perfectly good brick, now so many of us have to undo the damage.
At least you didn't stucco it, that would be criminal.

Funny, I just had carpet runners installed on both my staircases (to the 2nd and 3rd floors) this morning. We have 2 young boys, our 5 yr. old fell hard down the wooden stairs last month, and the 2 yr. old is just learning to go down stairs by himself, and the wood was hurting his bum. While I much prefer the look of wood, the carpet runners are essential for us.

My 20 month old son sleeps on a twin on the floor, and has since he transitioned out of our bed at 5 months. He loves it, as do I. We have a cushy wool rug next to the bed, just in case, though he doesn't really fall off. It's perfect for putting him to sleep, and when he gets up he can just go get a book. Though since we use a monitor, I'm there as soon as I hear him wake up anyway. I highly recommend it. My 5 yr. old son was also in a floor bed, though we had him in a crib till 18 months. But honestly neither him nor me could stand his crib. He was so happy to finally be switched to a bed.

Call me crazy, but I love most of the first kitchen, minus the bad ceiling and the awkward cubby shelf. A few minor touches and the first one could've been great. oh well.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm still sleeping with him, just in his bed now, not mine. So when I'm there I can be the rail, but hopefully in the future I won't be there as much.

Where did you find the rug? I love it, I want it!

Any music/instrument store will sell guitar hooks for the wall. We have 3 hooks in our living/music room for our 3 yr. old's guitars, they work great and they're simple.
