pinkalbatross, I love your solutions, mostly because they are what I've been wanting to do myself for years! My house is small with a sea of doors and windows everywhere that seem to dictate furniture layout, but I would love to have the little dining room off the kitchen be primarily a sitting room just for me with a TV. I don't like being in the front of the house to lounge and watch a show with my foot hanging over the arm of a chair! The same with a smaller parlor for guests (of which there are painfully few) and an office/dining layout that could be much larger than what's in my bedroom. If the light over the stove is on, then I consider that something is cooking somewhere in the kitchen and don't go off and leave it. When I'm done with whatever, I turn off that light. If I need ambient light, there is a small (and very pretty) lamp on a countertop that can be left on. How To: Remember If You've Turned the Stove Off And Keep Your Sanity |

Black toilets may be stylish, but they are horrible to use. It is impossible to tell if they are clean. Disgusting beyond comprehension. Don'ts Worth Doing: Design Ideas from Hotel Bathrooms |
