Yum - I love this stuff! I first tried it in Oregon wine country, at a great little wine and cheese shop that I can't remember the name of!

Thanks for sharing the background info on the farmers!

Mmmmm! This looks great! I love a good casserole, but my husband tends to hate them - based, I think, on the cream of mushroom soup bases of our 70s childhoods. He likes baked ziti, tho, so maybe he could handle this one.

I answered 'always', but a more accurate response would be - sometimes, sometimes not. I love the look of a tablecloth, but placemats seem more casual and yes, more easily cleaned. I'm a big fan of Chilewich placemats. Great looking and easy to wipe clean. I do have a stash of fabric placemats, but after a toss in the washing machine, they never seem to look as nice.

You can rent a professional nail gun from stores like Home Depot and Lowe's.

I understand all the helpful comments about not storing things you don't really need in the first place, but sometimes there truly is a need for rented storage. My husband and I sold our house 3 months ago and moved in with our in-laws while we search for a new one. The majority of our furniture and house 'stuff' was put into a climate controlled storage unit and thankfully my in-laws let us take over their basement to store the really precious stuff (china, crystal, photos, etc).

We check on our unit regularly and thankfully no problems, so far. We were also able to purchase insurance for the unit thru the rental company since we no longer carry homeowner's insurance. We opted for the maximum coverage amount and in addition to the extra cost of the climate control, it's not cheap, but it gives us some peace of mind.

Put me in the anti-granite camp, too. I think it's cold looking and just feels over-used. We're currently house hunting and it seems like everyone trying to flip a house has slapped some granite countertops in the kitchen and jacked up the price $50K. I'd rather have the before-kitchen, thanks, and make it more 'my own'.

I'd love marble countertops (yes, I've read all the negatives) or even stainless steel. But honestly, I did just fine with the formica counters we installed in our last house. True, I couldn't put a hot pot on them, but that's what trivets are made for!

Another tip is to use the extra spin cycle on your washing machine to get even more water out of your clothes. It helps make the drying time shorter (ok, duh) and typically dryers are bigger energy hogs than washing machines.

I'm excited about the new changes, too - and couldn't agree more with VXROUR. I would love a way to toggle between the two sites and so far, the only way I can figure out is to go scroll down and click on a AT Top Post link.

Thanks for the always informative, educational and inspirational posts!

I think a big part of the problem was that not every cable company carried the Hallmark channel! I'm a huge Martha fan (and if you read her mag, you'll see quite a bit of modern design), but even I couldn't commit to watching her show 5x/week - if if my cable company carried it.

I made rolls for Thanksgiving this year - using this recipe from Bon Appetit : http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Poppy-Seed-Dinner-Rolls-837. I actually tried to get out of making them becuz we're living temporarily with my in-laws, but my family threatened to riot. Thankfully I decided to make the double batch ahead of time and just reheated them before dinner. Yum!

I was taught to wait until everyone had their food (or drink) before digging in - and I still do this today, whether at home or in a restaurant. Sadly, it's a lesson not everyone seemed to learn!

We have fine china as well as everyday, porcelain dishes. I love using the china (and our crystal, too) when we have friends or family over. It's not about 'appearing fancy' - I just love using them - and sharing them with the people I care about. If it makes them feel special becuz it's a step up from our everyday stuff, well, that's an added bonus.

As for the handwashing, it's not a big deal to me. It's just me and my husband so I tend to wash most dishes by hand anyway.
