I am in Australia. I have been on At since 2007. I WAS, until this re-design, FASCINATED by the regional cultural differences that were coming through with the cities links. Where are these links now????? The States is an amazing place and soo diverse - climate, culture, landscape - I want to see what people are doing in their region, city whatever, by clicking on a link - so interesting. The States is diverse, so let that diversity in the design landscape shine through. Please restore the cities link. AT fan, Australia. Welcome to the New Apartment Therapy! |

RYTTU3K agree totally. I had no idea there were no switches in the States. Wow that blows me away, what about safety? We are taught from when we are like zero that each time we plug an appliance in or take it out of the power point we must switch it off first! Yes I see that the voltage is the difference but, really? The Hills Hoist is so much a standard that you can't get a council approval for a house or apartment unless you show the outdoor drying area, because that's the way its always been done. The other thing about Australia is that climate wise, we are so switched on at the grass roots level, and while its true this push has influenced the political landscape Australia is still very behind in many green initiatives. I look at you guys in the states all the time and think wow you achieve what you do without legislation - just seems to me many 'switched' on people know what to do environmentally and don't need a stick either way. Good on you great people in the States. Well done. S Cultural Exchange: Lessons to Learn from Australian Homes |

Sorry but its still ugly. Maybe the open shelving could have been retained rather than heavy cupboard doors installed over the benches. Its not really my place to criticise but looking at I can't thinking that there was another $17 alternative. Before & After: $17 Rental Kitchen Makeover HGTV |

Oh just noted that you inserted the open shelving above the cupboard area - great job. Well done. How did you do that? The piece now has nice proportions. This is a good job I think. Before & After: An Old Fashioned Hutch Goes Modern Reader Project |

I think this is lovely. The only question I have is why did you replace the doors on the lower half of the cabinet? Were they shot? Love your choice of handles. Thanks. Before & After: An Old Fashioned Hutch Goes Modern Reader Project |

I absolutely love what they have done. So refreshing and well organised. Love it. I'm collecting images of well organised pantries at the moment to inspire a retrofit of my own - this will be in the collection. Well done. Just Lovely. Oh if only to be snowed in! I have been sweltering in 41 degree celcius heat for 5 days, just north of Sydney Australia. Can't even get motivated to decorate - all the better for scanning the deliciously inspiring pages of AT!. 10 Things to Do Around the House When You're Snowed In |

Wow, congratulations on such a lovely home. Your home is one of the most inspirational I've seen in a long long time. There are so many ideas here that I just can't help myself but steal some! Loving your scandanavian sideboard upcycle to vanity; and that side board with those fabulous prints. Need I say more. Again, congratulations and best of all with your new family. Dear Alicebot I live in Newcastle and have to say Newey is a regional town with a good selection of second hand furniture suppliers and quite a lot of garage sales - the point being great pieces go for a song because they are often unappreciated here by many. People travel up from Sydney to buy vintage here for that reason, its a 2 hour drive on the F3. We are an ex-steel town but with such a vibrant cultural community. Congrats to Tim, I know this building and its not pretty outside so its interesting to see what he has done with the support of Renew Newcastle. AT, would be good to profile Newcastle as there is a quiet but quirky revolution going on here! Before and After: Tim Neve's $500 Reception Renovation |

Thanks for all those encouraging comments...I agree with the comments about the arm covers, they are very daggy I know. Paintitbright, I so agree with you, I wanted to stick to the period but I was unable to find a cut velvet that was authentic and tasteful. i saw a great DIY once which turned a timber sideboard into a really nice piece by staining using a black stain with a semi-gloss laquer. It allowed the grain of the timber to come through with a black stain on top without looking tacky. Perhaps you could give it some thought. It looked very classy. Should I Paint the Trim On My Sofa? Thanks everyone, I'm still undecided. Husband is mad keen on a Florence Knoll leather replica from a place in Waterloo...but quality & durability is questionable. We've looked at King sofas which are quite divine, and Australian made sofas in various department stores. The economics tells me its more cost effective to buy new, but there are many compelling reasons not to, as many people have pointed out. And the cat is still with us and we need to address that before we do anything more with the lounge. Appreciate all the cat suggestions. Thanks Etelka for the nail clipping advice.
