You are not supposed to soak a pizza stone. The water can stay trapped in the porous surface of it, expand when heated, and crack the stone. You should also be careful about buying an unglazed tile from the home improvement store because some of the tiles have lead in them. To clean your stone, you should try heating it and scraping the hot stone. Help! Did I Ruin My Pizza Stone? Good Questions |

Guess I should have been more specific. Little Green Notebook has a good tutorial, but you should add some polyurethane at the end, unlike her project. Could I Recreate the Finish on this Desk? Good Questions |

A rug under the table. Either paint or some wall decals. The NYTimes did a great piece of decorating on a budget a couple of years ago where the designer used those wall decal stripes horizontally (and in place of paint) to set off the dining room. I believe she also put pictures over the stripes. Probably replace or paint the chairs in your dining set. And you may want to use a recessed light conversion kit. I really really want a Richard Phillips, but I already have some prints or originals of some name artists just because no one really seems to want to collect African artists in my area. So when they pop up at auctions or in galleries, I can get them for a relative steal. My mother, however, has a Diego Rivera. Not a print. A painting. What is Your Dream Artwork? |

I found my Gucci outfit in Pittsburgh, but my understanding is that the mid-size and smaller cities in the midwest are goldmines. Apparently, all of the vintage furniture sellers make periodic treks there to raid their thrift shops. You Paid WHAT for That? Best Secondhand Finds Ever |

I did this with my dishwasher. I just bought my first home and had a stainless fridge and microwave, but white dishwasher and stove. It wasn't worth it to replace the dishwasher because it's an appliance I rarely use. So I spent $40 and recovered it. I'm saving up for a new range. seconding the recommendation to get a gelpro mat. They are not pretty, though the company is making strides in making them not ugly, and definitely not cheap. I had to get them for my kitchen because having tile on a slab foundation killed my back. Should I Put A Rug In My Kitchen? Good Questions |

My house is set up almost identically. I've been struggling over whether to have the screened in patio operate as more of a lounge or al fresco dining, until I found an adjustable height table that goes from coffee to dining height. Open the Door: Dining Space Outside the Dining Room |

I live in Austin and there are some pests you'll never escape--roaches, lizards, ants no matter how much you spray. But things like insulation are an absolute must. The energy costs to heat and cool your house without it are enormous. Insulation in Texas isn't even so much about comfort as it is about fiscal and environmental responsibility. Comfort or Looks? |

Do you own or do you rent because that will make all the difference in the world as to the answer. If you rent, you may want to put down rugs and mats on the bathroom floor. You might also be able to rig up some sort of insulated box to place directly underneath the tub (filled with either styrofoam, packing peanuts, or actual insulation). Plus this will probably look better and be less conspicuous than any sort of tub surround. How To Keep Tub From Cooling? Good Questions |
