IKEA STATEMENT ABOUT INACCURATE REPORTS OF A LAUNCH OF PRE-FAB HOMES IN U.S.

IKEA has not launched and is not selling prefabricated homes in the United States. Any reports saying otherwise are not accurate.

One of our U.S. stores, IKEA Portland, has participated in a collaboration with an Oregon-based prefab studio – ideabox (www.ideabox.us) – where a version of one of ideabox’s pre-fab homes is being sold with IKEA items (ie., wardrobes, kitchens, etc.). Interior designers from IKEA Portland helped furnish the interior of this particular home, and an example was on display at the recent Portland Home & Garden Show. Each home of this type sold by ideabox will include those same IKEA products that the local prefab studio will have purchased from IKEA Portland. To make clear: IKEA is neither the manufacturer nor the retailer of these prefabricated homes.

I love those moonlight speakers a lot. I wonder how they sound?

Stunning! I love that you have combined low-cost and high-end items in the same spaces. It creates a seamless look that appears effortless...but I know it's not easy. Congrats!!

There's nothing wrong with the speakers or TV. The biggest issue I see in the room is the window/window shade. They're way too small and way too low on the walls. Hang the window treatments outside of the actual glass and much higher to take up more space. If you add visual weight to the windows, you'll take away the importance of the TV...especially if they go almost floor to ceiling.

Also, I like that it's asymmetrical. Keep it that way and don't try to make everything reflective. For instance, I wouldn't hang art on the left of the TV that "matches" the window on the other side. If you wanted something over there, make it smaller or higher/lower than the window.

Just my two cents.

I always try to rent from individual owners that actually own the condo or house. If possible, I negotiate lower rent in exchange for my labor in upgrading the home. If the landlord actually owns the unit, they're usually open to this (if you can prove you do quality work). Even if they don't agree to lower rent, I have always gotten landlords to pay for the material (new blinds, paint, appliances, etc...) in exchange for me doing the actual work. That way I can enjoy the benefits, but not have to worry about painting back or taking things with me. It's a win/win for me, really.

If none of this flew, I would maybe paint one accent wall (I'm so over painting apartments back to white when moving out) or be creative with wall decor to be able to leave the walls white/beige. That way anything I spend money on I can take with me.

I like the glass top idea the best. I also think it would be the most professional looking. You can get 6" stainless standoffs that either glue or bolt through the top and elevate it 6" from the dresser. Then you have a space between the glass and the dresser to put cook books, conversation pieces, storage, etc... It would also preserve the dresser without making it look like you "added on" to it.

This is absolutely gorgeous. And, it's obvious from the article that these aren't freestanding bookshelves. One actually has the toilet inside of it.

I would absolutely love living in this apartment. The white/black contrast is stunning! And, I love creative solutions to space problems like this.

Thank you all for the positive comments! This is actually my brother's house that I designed for him and did some work on with him (such as these numbers).

Because we were on a really tight budget, the house numbers were made by a local metal fabricator. We contacted them with the idea and they volunteered to do the work for free. They actually wanted to try out importing AutoCAD files into their laser cutter. This was take two because the first ones didn't come out right. I've found if you work with local vendors and challenge them to try something new, they usually do it for free to learn. He even used scrap stainless from his shop, so we didn't have to pay for the material either. This guy was awesome!

The stainless is 3/32" thick. My brother bought the standoffs from Amazon for like $10 and we drilled holes through the stainless and siding to mount them. We put silicon in the hole on the house while inserting the standoff to prevent water intrusion through the siding.

So, for about $10, some extra effort and a little labor on our part, we got some massive house numbers. I looked online and these would have cost us almost $1,000 from someone else.

Oh yeah, the door color is more of a yellow/greenish color (specified in the write-up). With the setting sun, the color varies a bit. But, we all LOVE it.

Thanks again for the positive feedback!

I know how difficult it is to do kitchen remodels on a budget. So, great work with what you had!

I, too, would recommend some cabinet hardware to "finish" it off. A nice chrome/brushed cup handle from IKEA would work quite well and be budget-friendly.

I really can't understand the motivation behind all the "ugly" comments from people. Why even take the time to comment if you don't have anything positive and/or constructive to say?

The TV room and bedroom loft are my favorite spaces, but I love the entire house tour. I also don't think the space looks "calculated". Personally, I think it looks just right. I love the gray wall colors (especially in the TV room), the cabinet the TV is sitting on, and the dinning room table, lights and chairs. I would love to eat in that room!!

Well done, Sally!

Wow! Tough crowd here on AT. ha ha!!

I guess you had to live in the place to get it. That was my loft (a rental) in the TCI. TONS of glass, INTENSE sun, and everything was white. The floors (painted white wood), the trim, the walls, the ceiling, the bookshelves, the stairs, the railings, EVERYTHING. So, after spending all day at work on a beach that's whiter than any beach you've ever seen with the sun reflecting off of it into your eyes, you sorta get sick of WHITE! The color helps make the trim and white floors pop and also tone down the sun during the day. That's why it was painted...and it's fun, so why not!

Personally, I loved it and it made it feel more like a "home" to me and less like the other 33 units exactly like it.

Oh yeah, my landlord is able to get more rent than anyone else for her unit after I redid it while living there. So, someone must like it!

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Thanks for the compliments from those who liked it. :)

For $170, you can't really beat the quality and quantity of light you get from those track lights. They also look WAY better than the existing fixtures. Great job!

I use track lighting in brand new houses, especially in gallery situations where directing the light is important. They're not 70's if done properly.

You say "comfortable looking", but are they really comfortable? I love all these couches too, but I'd love even more to know if they are comfy to sit on.
