@finja.... because paper is a finite resource and ends up in the bin after kids draw on it? Not very sustainable. Chalk boards etc are a greener option.

I don't know about wearing them, but I use one as a beach/pool bag. I didn't want to have an ikea bag, because I'm vain, so I made a fabric 'shell' for the bag and added some pockets and a longer strap so it could be worn cross body.

@ek76 - my thoughts exactly!

If you want your kids drawing on the walls (really?) put up some chalkboard paint - at least the colour change will help them see where they can and can't draw. Why are kids playing in bathrooms anyway? Get in, get clean, get out.

@kmk355 you did a first aid course, and now you understand the psychology of children?
A child in a certain developmental stage will put anything in their mouths, no matter the shape, it's how they investigate the world (I'd prefer a toddler try and stick a big circle in their mouths rather than a skinny, short stick). If your kids stick things in their mouths, don't let them play unsupervised... As they get older, if you can't explain "don't eat" to them or they can't differentiate food from non-food, take them to a doctor.

These seem really clever! It also seems they'd be good for PT/OT purposes?

This is so lovely! I think, though, that as well as needing lots of natural light, you also need a decent sized room to pull off dark walls. I lust after having a dark-walled bedroom, but even though it faces west and is bathed in light most of the day, it is just too small - it would feel like a little cave of despair!

Great improvement, but if I were to buy it now I would consider the after a before. Too much wood detail, and so much of that honey colour. It looks like it was refurbished ten years ago.

That is so wonderful!! I love painted DIYs, don't get me wrong, but agree it is so beautiful to see the wood!

There is a ten-year-old boy in my head, though, that sees boobs.... if it were in my house I'd switch the draws around.

(ps ATers seem to forget that the furniture featured in these posts is not madeover for them, but rather according to the owner's decor/taste)

Aha - you guys posting this was so totally predictable. As soon as I saw it in the episode, my first thought after "cool" was "how long til this is on AT?". It is very clever though... would also be great in a child/teen's room, especially when they get to the age when they want to hang out with friends in their room etc.

@home body - I had a small painting on canvas in my old bathroom and it fared fine.

I love the first print, a lot! I like the idea of water themed prints in the bathroom.

It depends on the look you're after (sheer, solid, patterned etc) but when I wanted maximum light, maximum privacy and minimum cost, I ended up buying two white, flat single sheets from IKEA and using curtain clips with them. They're cheap but effective and look quite good - soft and floaty!
Ikea here in Australia have a nice curtain that is white with a faint grey pattern - that could work?

um @thera, the fridge is not next to the stove.... that "block of wood" is a shelf above what appears to be a microwave. I'd guess that the fridge is under the countertops or elsewhere in the dining space. Shame AT didn't reference this better.

This looks lovely though! If it were my kitchen, I would probably have more overhang of the countertop and create a little breakfast bar with some stools!

I don't understand why you would buy four different shades of grey? IMO it would work better to buy a dark base grey, and then create a true ombre effect by adding white paint. It doesn't look very cohesive as it is. I'd also change out the hardware... even just painting it a more complementary colour.

I too now see two smiling faces (with double chins!) - thanks to @mamamamaqc!!

And the YHL-ness of their site is odd... There's a definite wannabe vibe going on, especially with the baby.

As I was reading this, I was assuming by your suggestions that you don't have kids... quite surprised you do. If the family is in a small rental, why are you sending them clutter?
What about ebooks on iPad/Kindle etc. What about a cleaning service? What about a meals/grocery delivery service? What about paying for a babysitter for a few hours? What about visiting and helping with baby prep and toddler care?

All that being said... I agree that this post belongs on Babble et al, not here.

The upside of this reaction, Maxwell, is that you had a loyal following who were reading and subscribing to this site when it featured design and home-centric posts. It isn't some positive side effect you should be glad about, you should be regretful for misreading an ENTIRE community of readers and potentially exposing children to topics that are not family friendly. This is relationship related, it doesn't matter that it might happen in the home. What's next - medical advice? Your arrogant little foreword just shows how little you care about the readership of AT. Do something decent with your budget, and hire a copy editor or hire someone to filter the plethora of spammers.

I would've found a different way to work with the pink walls - navy and white/cream perhaps. I'd have bought a bed frame that had storage underneath, and then it could also be high enough for comfortable seating for guests, if needs be.

Who doesn't know they only own one fork??
